i think this is a good debate and topic.
I think they are both good, and everything depends on your preference and skills, and what your golf coach teaches you.

My cousin from SoCaL ( Southern California, who bombs his balls to 300plus yards ) prefers "Fade" and profess blah blah blah blah....

If you looked at the American Golf Pro like Fred Couples, Vijah Singh, Jack Nicklaus usually hits a "fade" shot from a driver shot. While TW hits both, high fade or draw.

But for me, i think the best driver shot is to be in the regulation.
just read this article about Phil....

http://blogs.golf.com/top100/2010/02/the-big-play-how-to-drive-it-like-phil-not.html

for me, I usally hit a draw, becoz i was taught that draw is a lot better. But i sometimes would hit a fade shot depending on the course layout.

both are needed, there's a natural shot for everyone, just play your natural shot for most holes and employ the fade/draw when the course/hole design calls for it.

the best is what gets you a lower score...

you can drive 300m, but if the guy that drove 200m scores a birdie and you a par...you are still 1 shot behind.

i thgt,

normally we are taught to draw the ball.... more distance n more powerful.....

then, there's a group of long hitters who dun really needs the distance and they promotes the fade...coz ball supposingly to stop better than the draw... thus more accuracy...

then they come up with the power fade... distance n accuracy.....

any controlled draw out there tht gives distance n accuracy?...

then some would say, go to yr natural shot...coz tht's where it iwll happen when u r under pressure or something big on the line.... (wonder what i can do when under pressure, i normally topped.... is there a controlled topped? hahaha)

hmmmm... dun really understand... coz i m still trying to hit it a little further, a little more consistent and a little straighter..... i am still trying to break 100.... Sad

PostSubject: Re: FAde Or Draw ---- Pro Plz Clarify this   FAde Or Draw ---- Pro Plz Clarify this I_icon_minitimeMon Feb 08, 2010 6:30 pm

well gents if i'm honest i hands down prefer to hit a fade to a draw

1. control
2. consistency

you'll never really lose it too far off-line because with a draw you're putting a little more "over spin" if you will, on the ball (more run = more distance) but by that same token if you start it a little off line and you put a bad swing on it it'll end up MILES away from your target.

i'm a natural drawer of the ball but my game's been way more consistent lately cause my new stock shot's just a little sliding fade.

but as with anything in golf its a personal prefrence thing, whichever works best for you STICK WITH IT!

*plenty of good players on both sides

hope my take helps in some way!

it depends what kinda of player you are. You can hit draw all days down the middle like kenny perry but are you able to control it? It's necessary to have both shots in the bag for high level amateur golf let alone pro golf. I've always practiced hitting a fade because i know it's easier to control and i can hit it as hard as i want to down the right hand side(left for right hander) and not hook it. Most players who draw the ball try to hit a fade as they wouldn want to get the hooks going. trevino once said, a cut wld listen, a hook wld never.

no good no bad.

big fairway, no danger hit draw.

tite fairway or course shape requires, hit fade.

granted draw has more topspin and generally farther then fade..but to me i dont think a power fade is any much shorter..if not SAME distance with more control. that being said..not easy to master the power fade. Terrible slices do still appear sometimes when attempting it LOL.

you would also fare better if all the way u use your stock shot rather then try too hard and screw up the shots by trying to shape the shot. u can train at the range first...then slowly maybe spend 20% of your shots on course(or when course requires) to shape the shots.

Shot shaping will get u only that much closer to the hole. Unless its tornament play and u need birdies, the risks of shot shaping is more then you think.jes hit stock shots until u CAN shape your shots.

btw i think the hardest shot in golf is a dead straight shot LOL

Just to correct your point on "top spin", there is no top spin in the ball at all. Hitting a draw can cause the back spin to be less than a fade.

A draw or fade depends on the direction the back spin is pointing. for a right hander golfer, a fade means the ball's axis of rotation has rotated to the right, looking from the top of the ball.

Okay I've heard this:

"...at impact, draw type shot has the club face closing or delofting, produces a running ball when it lands... a fade shot has the club face slightly more opened, therefore higher launch angle doesn't roll out as much"

J.B. Holmes power fades it 300+ yards. Boomz!

Cyp, maybe try searching on YouTube for videos on how to do fade shots?

Top of my head I can only think of a few set up steps on fading like: set up with a slightly open stance maybe 1/2 a toe in front of your left, ball slightly forward and open your clubface a little.

Think this should allow you to swing slightly across the ball hopefully resulting in a nice soft fade.

i reckon he should learn to hit a fade with a square stance. he should set up square but imagine he is swinging under the plane line. a gd drill for this would placing a coin 5 inches behind the ball and 2 inches on the inside(2 inches towards you) try and make swings to miss the coin. that would surely make u swing slightly out to in. however by the looks of his avatar, he'll need to fix his backswing first.

It will only be good if one can do either one On Demand.

To fade or to draw is all about course management isn't it?

well it's really more ball control. i'd say course management is more on which shot could i hit that wld give be the best chance of getting to the intended target. course management is learning when to attack and defend. learning to fade or draw, or rather to fade or draw effectively would give you more options to managing your game by attacking or defending.

From what I understand, which is very little Embarassed , course management is knowing where to hit to, and if not, where to miss it.

Justin, I think Cyp's avatar looks pretty good no? Good lines to me Neutral

well his club is parallel with his feet at the top of his swing but no offence CYP, his feet are aiming way way right. even for draw, i dont think you would want to aim that far right. if he was aiming down the middle of the fairway, his club is severely across the line of intended swing path but parallel to body alignments

If your club face is aligned perpendicular to the target line, isn't it the case that aiming more right will give you a more severe draw or even hook?
