| Hey guys,
was wondering if u guys stick to a certain brand of wedges for ur bag all u mix them up eg. like a 52 degree cleveland and a 56 degree vokey.is it better to use wedges of the same brand?or does using various brands affect u in a certain way.
thanks | |

| i prefer the same brand wedges in the bag, same model and same shaft
some brands have more rounded leading edge, some have steeper leading edge,
some have a hint of offset, some don't have
some have bigger hitting surface, some small and need a more precise hit
I guess, i am not good enough to mix it up. Cos I feel, it does make a difference... to me anyway

| I use the same brand for all my wedges... because I am a very visual person. If I have different brands of wedges in my bag, I have a hard time getting use to the look during setup thus making me feeling less confident in striking the ball. Another thing is I like my wedges heavy... can help facilitate a smooth downswing without exerting too much force. Using too much strength to hit a pitching/ chipping shot will usually cause my shots to go wayward... but that's just me.. | |

| As pocketace said, there are many different designs for wedges as there are for drivers, though not as radically different. Sweetspot size may vary too.
Even within the same brand, designs can be different from one generation to the next. Take Cleveland for example, from the classic Tour Action 588, through the CG10, CG12, CG14, and now the new CG15, all have slightly different face shapes.
And you are right redknapp11, using the same brand and model of wedges does aid consistency of execution. You know you can expect the same feel, spin, and performance from all your wedges.
Having said that, I use a a Cleveland CG10 46 degree pitching wedge which at that time was a special order. Most wedges then were 48 degrees, too much of a distance gap between the 9 iron and PW for me with the stronger lofted irons. My sand and lob wedges are TaylorMade rac TP with y cut grooves.
Different brands yes, but they are similar in design with a tear drop shape and straight leading edge which I find easier to align. My PW also doesn't have the extra spin grooves of my SW and LW but that isn't a real bother since I hardly ever use my PW for anything other than full/three quarter shots and long running chips. All other shots are covered by the other two clubs which allow me to be more aggressive in attacking the hole cos of the spin they produce.
Hope my perspective has given you some perspective redknapp11.

| I have 2 brands of wedges in my bag:
CG12 46˚, 54˚ Callaway X-Forged 58˚
I wanted the Callaway cause it's the vintage sort which rusts so I like that it gives me more grip on the ball.

| My view and view only:
It is perfectly fine to go with different brands of wedges....For me at least, it depends a lot on how you approach or mentality on approaching the green. For myself, I am very much uses the feel of my hand rather than those clock wise approach.... I was previously using the T588 57 deg wedge, but felt it was too heavy (bo pian , old fragile uncle liao)....and many times, either over hit or don follow thru......this year, decided to change to Ping with NSPro shaft, so far, gives better control.
currently my wedges: 48 deg: Clevage CG gold stock shart 51deg : Clevage T588 DG shaft 56deg: Ping NSPro 950
But then again, with my std, one should take this view with a big pinch of salt.

| i use a 4 wedge system. dramatically reduce my score by improving my short game.
I use vokey 48(P), 54, 58 and 62..
Work wonders.
But whatever wedges you use, whether same brand or mixed, need to put in the hard work to train on them
My humble opinion... | |

My humble opinion... That is so true andrew. many buy wedges hoping to achieve miracles. most of the time it's the fault of the person not the wedge. Also many are unaware that the wedges these days are made to the golfer's advantage. with such technology, one has to just apply the correct techniques and he would reap the benefits a wedge can bring to your game. If used inadequately, a poor wedge shot can be as penal or if not more than an errant tee shot.

| yup.. but we often spend more time to practice the irons..
i just commented to my friend today that the difference btw the better players from the normal ones are the short game and putting.
bloody hell, my friend putting is godly.. 4 out of 5 puts from any distance he can pop the ball in... inspired man...
