there is a huge difference between fitting for different levels of skills.

the easiest to fit are the pros cos they can hit balls like robots. it helps to get a Trackman to give us certain statistic like launch angle, maximum height, land angle, hang time, club trajectory, angle of attack, left/right spin, face angle and the USUAL Club head speed, ball speed, spin rate, smash factor.

it doesn't matter whether its 8.5, 9.5, 10.5 or 12 degree, by using different shaft we can still achieve the PGA average of 12 to 14 degree launch, 28 meters maximum height, high 30s degree land angle and the desired spin rate matched to the club head speed. of course this can be achieve by both equipment, shafts and technique.

basically a fitter should be a little more than a technician and be able to work with the player to achieve the desired results week-in, week-out.

Its also common for pros to have 2 drivers, one for normal conditions and one for windy conditions. so it pretty much depends on the objective of the fitting session OR one for the first 2 days and one for the final 2 days. a lot of spectators thought that pros go flat out for the first 2 days and hang in for the final 2 days, actually its the opposite.

this is an example where we help a pro achieve more than just consistently drive by getting him the right shaft.

We basically had the pro who can hit about 24 balls and choose what we (both) liked. We found that all his drive was at 1.48 to 1.5 smash factor and 109 to 112 mph. However to get the maximum carry and total distance, we discovered that his attack angle should be +1.5. it translate to 265 meters carry and 285 total and a very nice 38 degree land angle. when he hit at -2.5 degrees, he carried the ball 260 with very little roll and a 45+ degree land angle. when he hit it at +3 degree, he actually had a lower ball flight and less carry and more roll. so it was useful for him to know how his driver will react when he hits it differently. His name is Martin Rominger and if you go to his website, you will find that he proudly list us as his club fitter under Team.

Other pros based in Singapore who uses BFG include LCB, MM, Chris Rodgers and Gavin Flint (hopefully we can add the left handed LorHan soon). i normally refrained from saying all this, but a fact is a fact.

Honestly, i don't know what's the big deal about everyone promoting Big Fish in this forum. It's like a perceived monopoly of club fitting and shafting. There ARE other club fitters around, monsterlonester, so decide wisely. Anyway, If you're hitting your 7-iron 140m, I'm assuming you're an average-joe golfer with a handicap of about between 14 and 18, so going with the for the Fujikura Motore F1 Regular would not be a bad option. Make sure you get it spined and balanced first. Jef from Golf House can do that for under $30.

I'm using the TP Motore F1 65 Stiff on my R9 Driver, NOT the R9 460. My driver swing speed, measured today, is about 97mph. Nothing to shout about I know, but give the stock shafts a try first.
They just MIGHT be the perfect option for you.

It's hard to be objective when you do club fitting without having a launch monitor. Not many fitter are committed enough to invest in such machine.

from my understanding from DGman's post, the loft on the driver head is only part of the equation. have to look at the club as a whole. if I insist on using a 9.5 loft driver head, a clubfitter can help me optimise my club by using a suitable shaft... eg. my carry is not enough before the fitting session and my clubfitter can fix a high launch shaft for me to achieve the optimum launch angle, carry, landing angle and roll.

You know its kinda interesting about names. I have come across many Eric that are in the club fitting line. I can swear that its kinda a cult thing for Eric. They should just change the definition of Eric....
