| A big hi to all on the forum.... chanced upon this forum at the recommendation of a friend.... I am totally new to golf... Have not touched a set of clubs before... Could you folks help me with -
1. Lessons/ How & Where to Begin/ Recommendations on coaches/ estimated cost? (I stay in the City in Tanjong Pagar - Is there anybody keen to join me?)
2. Closest/ Easiest course/ range to practice?
3. Equipment - Old vs New clubs - Cost/ Recommendations.... Any other equipment to think of/ you would recommend?
4. Anything else I need to be aware of?
Thank you in advance for all your help/ support....
Cheers, H | |

| 1. go to marina bay golf course, there's a school there for structured lessons. you can go with chris. 2 in a class is more than enough. =p
2. marina, or come with us to changi... but thats kinda far for you. or Keppel?
3. second hand. unless u can find a good deal i.e $800 or less that includes a bag.. I would sk you to ctually ask your pro befoe buying. he/ she will prob know more about the current market for clubs.
4. get a gf/ wife who plays... if not, be prepared for nagging.
other than that... welcome and hope u enjoy your stay here.

| Thanks a bunch for the prompt response miss caddy... 1 & 2. I tried calling the pros at Marina Bay.. Yet to hear back from them.. 3. Second Hand - Is there a good pro-shop anybody can recommend that sells pre-owned clubs.... Is there anybody selling a good set on this forum (or would that be too ambitious? ) 4. Lucky for me, I already have found somebody who is as passionate about golf as me... So I think I am ok on that front... .....SB.... | |

| HI HV
If you are staying in Tanjong Pagar then Marina Bay will be a good place to take your lesson in terms of travelling time. But it's good for you to go down to take a look and speak to the Pros. They can be good but you might not like their style of teaching.
To me, golfers goes anywhere (ranges). I personally stay in changi area but i go to Bishan Range. Hee
As for clubs, it all depend on your budget. How much you willing to invest. Anyway Taylormade clubs are good for newbie.

| Miss Caddy - Probably true... Marina is the school while Keppel is the course as my GF also just informed me.... Also, I assume that the pros would have contacts for pre-owned clubs as well based on recommendations of size/ height, etc... Am about 6 feet....
Mike, Thanks... Am up for any place that has a good instructor... Any recommendations? Am all ears... Any estimates on what a pre-owned set of Taylormade clubs would cost?
Fellow Golfers, Please reply back/ PM me if you have a second hand set to sell?
Thanks, H | |

| 2nd sets u can look around at far east shopping center(next to hilton hotel) level 2 and basement has used club shops. but wait a bit before getting clubs, you can use ur pro's club for beginner lessons.
i am with joey at keppel, i like his style and method of teaching and am very comfortable with him. some instructors will give trial lessons so you can evaluate that or just head down to the range and watch them teach other students and see if u like it.

| Thanks Eiji... Actually I called up Joey on his cellphone and left him a couple of messages.... But this was during the Christmas week and I suspect he may have been off.... Good to know that he is a good coach....
Would be interested in taking a trial lesson/ looking at him teach.... would you mind if I tagged along for one of your sessions just to see him go through his paces?

| Hi HV,
Welcome here.
According to my limited knowledge, MBGC's Stargolf Academy offers cheaper rates for lessons as compared to other golf schools.
And you can visit Creative Golf at Kreta Ayer if you want to buy 2nd-hand clubs.
