| Hi everyone, I'm new to golf as well as the forum. Just picked up the sport in Dec, so that makes me a xin-jiao. Heh. A couple of questions. My shots with iron 7 are hitting between 50m and 75m (or is it yards?). I practice 2-3 times at the range depending on my work and the soreness below my little finger at the palm area. Can I know how long did it take you (in the beginning when you first started) to reach the 100m mark? And how many practices you have per wk when you first started? Of course I do not expect myself to be hitting as well as someone who has been playing for years overnight, but I think it's something I'll have to take note if I'm underperforming as an amateur! Many thanks! | |

| Welcome. I suggest you take lessons. Hacking balls away without a game plan isnt gonna lead you anywhere except ingrain bad habits | |

| Hi TM, Taking lesson as early as possible is the way to go... before you pick up bad habits. Once its in your swing, difficult to change. I am sure you saw somebody at the range with exotic swing and exclaimed,"Wow!" Btw, welcome! | |

| with lessons took me 2 weeks to hit 100m, but distance isn't the most important. 4mths in and i am still no where as consistent and tightly dispersed as i hope to be. each persons development is also different.
the above advices are really good, take lessons early and rid yourself of any bad habits.

| Eiji, Set up is the key... See yourself in front of the mirror in your setup position. You will be amazed what you think you are is different. Do it at home if you can't do it outside. For me, I slouched But I think that I was ok . My shots told me otherwise . Luckily the dark days are over for now | |

| hey guys, thanks for the replies! actually i did have lessons, but they're all over! =) Erm.. eiji got 100m in 2 wks. Guess I'm a bit slow then. haha. but thankfully my shots are quite straight. It's the distance that's troubling me. I also know some of my errors as told by my coach. | |

| Bro,
It depends which club you are using... If you are using SW, it reaches 70m. It's good!

| i think you should continue the lesson until your 7 iron reaches the 100m mark... suspect you have not established your swing yet (I presume you are a guy)... | |

| Troll the internet for articles and videos on golf swing. You can learn alot about ball placement, grip, setup, shoulder position etc. Im new as well so have been thru the process. If your swing is correct and you are striking the ball right, a 7 iron should take your ball pass 100m. Dont worry about direction, focus on striking the ball correctly. Directions can be adjusted by shifting hands and foot later. | |

| Hi... i would recommend finding a coach and stick to them for a long time... I have been playing for years... been through countless of coaches... Each coach has a different setup... so along the way you pick up different habits...
Finally found a coach that mirrors my expectations and will be sticking to him... Better to spend the money in the beginning rather than later and regret it!!!
When i was a kid and first started Golf... i would pretend the range was a Baseball field and aim at say the 100m Target, If i hit it pass the Target 3 times in a row... I pat myself on the back and give myself 5 mins break... after which... its back to the game!!!
