| I'm with you on this Focal. The "talent" is debatable. On the news(Channel 5) the other day reported a 90% overall pass rate on 'O' levels across the board. And, bare with me here, an increase from 49% to 59% pass rate from Malay students over the last decade. Though its an increment, no doubt, but that's 2 in 5 without an 'O' level cert. Something the education and home affairs ministry might wanna take another look into. We wanna move forward together as a nation, because should there be too huge a social difference between the upper and lower society, we might not have the economic and security balance we have today i.e. a (somewhat) developed back to a developing country. Hope I did thread lightly on the sensitive issue. I'm gonna try to get some eye shut. Severely insomniac | |

| Folks,
Yall got it all wrong. The idols, in the end it boils down to the battle of the Sexes. Man Vs Woman. In many instances, the man is the one that will win. Why?
Typically, the voters for the Guy portion, are ladies. Women vote with more compassion and typically to the opposite sex. Where as men are straight forward and will vote for the ones that sounded good. Men would spend less compare to ladies compare to ladies.
Let quoted a similar example in MY a few years back, in Super Star Idol, there were 2 final contestant. The Guy (suppose to good looking) and the Lady (sings like bird and much better than the Guy). It is so obvious that the Lady won hands down in singing performance but when the votes comes in, The Guy won. This is because, the ladies votes for the guy, hence he has the more votes.

I'm gobsmacked! | |

| if it was base on talent, it wouldn't be left to votes...
shows like <insert country name> got talent are more reflective of a true talent show.
all these X Idol, X Superstar, etc etc shows are just revenue generating marketing shows

| You can idolise a person without talent.
Lets not discuss racial issues here. It is sensitive.
Anyway arts is always subjective. It is money that rules. Producers want someone who can sell albums and not someone that sound like a bird. If you spend money voting, you are likely to buy album. If you are there not voting and bitching that the best person lost, you probably wouldnt spend a cent buying her album anyway.
Anyway, lets just be nice to each other here regardless of race and sex. You may disagree but please do not make remarks that are personal.

| ***The Singapore Pledge***
We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society based on justice and equality so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.
***Origin of Singapore Pledge !***
Singapore’s national pledge was written by Singapore’s first Minister of Foreign Affairs, S. Rajaratnam, in 1966, against the backdrop of racial riots in the 1950s and 1960s.
Rajaratnam’s inspiration was to build "a Singapore we are proud of", while emphasising unity and multi-racial harmony. He believed that language, race and religion were potentially divisive factors, which could be overcome if Singaporeans cared enough about their country.
Aren't you guys proud that Singapore is a Peace & Safe country? Stop being racist, it's only our outer skins that is different but our blood is still RED !
Make Love NOT War ! | |

| the trick is not just being popular
you have to have ppl willing to spend money on you.... sms a lot.
the producers are counting to bank on those who ppl are WILLING to spend money. So what if they cut a album for those who everyone say better but no one wanna spend a single cent? At the end of the day, singapore talent(or whatever you call it) is not going to have the same kind of appeal as the foreign talents that crowd the CD stores. Thus, if they need to have an album, better bank on the right chap.
