Up in the hills southeast of Bangkok is an amazing, challenging yet mystical golf paradise: Wangjuntr Golf Park.
This is not for the whimsy golfer. It takes a 3-hour drive on route to Pattaya / Rayong to go there.
And no, we were not alone when we arrived there.
3 18-holes awaits you.
And there were many Koreans there (some looked LPGA, some looked like KJ Choi types), possibly enlisted in a golf "concentration" camp.
How I wished I was Korean too.
Expect to bring many balls there. If you are a 10-hdcp, you should expect to come out bruised with a 20-over at least.
Why did we go through a long ride to play there? What is in store for us?
This is a very unique course with great character. Tough it may be, but the huge rush of joy comes when you put the ball on the green.
I managed to make 2 pars, and lost 2-3 balls. Although the course is great, facilities are kampong style.
Enjoy the photos.
Highland CourseBuggy to bring us to the courseHole 10- Tee off
Hole 11- Tee off
Hole 13- Name of this hole is Stairway to Heaven
13 Green- At the top
Hole 14- You got to tee off from the cliff to land the ball just before the water. I think this is a Par 4.
14 Fairway. I have to attack with the 3 wood from about 200m.
Hole 18 - Par 3 island on a windy day.
Hole 1 - Dog leg right Par 4. Caddy asked me to drive the ball at the small bunker on the right, next to cart path.
Managed to get it there somehow, with a downhill like this, you can be sure to drive more than 200m.
Hole 2 - Fairway uphill. Did you see the rocks?
Hole 3 - Par 3. Aim to land the ball near to where those guys are standing (of course after they had move on from the green). Very windy.
Landing in the bunker will be a disaster. Overshooting the green means the ball will be lost.
Somehow I managed to land it in front of the bunker with a 5i. Phew.
The sight awaits you when you are on the green
Crazy hole 4. Land the ball across the ravine, next to the cart path. If the ball lands on the slope, expect a few more strokes with some rocks scarring your precious weapons
Hole 6. Par 3. Where is the pin? It is on the right after the flowers, uphill. Better fade the ball!
Green on hole 7? Look at the rough in the middle of the green. The greens are real tough and undulating.
Although the golfers are bruised, somehow I enjoyed the course and hope to be back for more.
This is golf for the extremes!
