| Actually is there a need to shame a fitter if you deem he/she is incompetent? They are also trying to make a living with it. If you are think they are incompetent just look for someone else you are comfortable with.
As for comparison with pros like rory, tiger or phil, I think they are capable of using all clubs even off the shelves. Remember KJ Choi went to golfsmith and bought a set of irons for a tournament and still make cut.

| Interesting indeed... Just as how everyone here has different swings, preferences and sizes I also have my own view. Fitting can be as good as the time you have it done. Let me explain further: -If you can reproduce consistent swing day in and day out, then fitting can help further by complimenting limitation of your equipment -If you are not standard size whether it's height, arm/leg length, fitting can also help -Sometimes you will have fitters giving you advise on your swing... If you don't make it yours, then a week after having your clubs fitted everything might turn sour By all means fitting a club is not a waste when you have it done by someone with experience, qualifications, etc.. However it can also effect your game in a negative way if you have it done by someone without the right level of skills. In oder for this to happen, you also have to have certain level of knowledge around what it means to have the fitted clubs and how it's done. You're doing the absolutely right thing by posting and sharing here. At the same time, you have to understand all of us here has different taste and level of understanding. I used to use custom fit clubs when I was a scratch player. Nowadays I buy clubs off the shelf but customized with particular types of shafts and grips also ensuring the swing weight it kept intact. I know what I want and need. My previous fitting session has given me a lot of knowledge around fitting. Some people need taylor made suits where most people can find something they look good in by shopping bespoke. Again it's personal preference and what the players want, instead of what they may need. i.e. honing themselves to be consistent and better players. Just my two cents.

Remember KJ Choi went to golfsmith and bought a set of irons for a tournament and still make cut. KJ Choi is a club ho.... he switched clubs every 3 months. Everytime I see his WITB, he has all different clubs. I've seen he used Miura then Ping then Callaway. It's too costly to get custom fitted clubs every 3 months. Well most pros are capable to use off the shelves clubs. The question is how long are they gonna use it? First they won't like the swing weight, because most of them prefer heavier swing weight (Tiger prefers D4). And second, have you seen an X-stiff shaft available anywhere in a pro shop?

| Hmmm actually just wanted to discuss if you agree with the article in the publication. i.e. No impact tape or lie marker/board and still very competent Doesn't just pass you any clubs in his store and ask you to try before letting your swing your own clubs Has a launch monitor and "fitting" took less than 30mins. But still you feel meets your expectation. Please refrain from naming and shame as its not the purpose. *Actually i just thought it was a bit harsh putting it on print, using the word "incompetent" in a sweeping statement. TGIF | |

| Not using an impact tape does not necessarily make a fitter a poor one.
Golf clubs fitting has evolved much over the past few years than to just relying on archaic method like impact tape to determine strike consistency.
There are more advanced technological means to do so i.e trackman, flightscope

| http://www.golfwrx.com/261559/wishon-what-length-should-your-golf-clubs-be/ At least this article is a little more diplomatic. "not so good fitter" | |

| Question for the high hands - how consistent should one's swing be for fitting to be effective?
Sometimes I feel that every swing I make in a round of golf is different!

Sometimes I feel that every swing I make in a round of golf is different! Just a basic simple swing with some consistency. No heavy chopping, slicing, hooking or scooping.

| So the equipment is ill fitted if I can't play well after custom fittings? That's interesting. Our swing isn't as consistent as the pros, so it doesn't mean that we will have the most perfect fit. Too bad we can't fit a set of clubs that can change its characteristics based on that particular swing. | |
