| It's common knowledge that range balls don't go as far because of their lower compression. At mbgc range, would the distance be the same as the real balls if hit from level 3 (same level as canopy) because of the elevation? thanks in advance for your advice. | |

| With a good range ball 150yards of carry(assuming well struck and optimum flight: Minus 8 to 12 yards compared to a premium ball (independent testing with Seletar range ball and TrackMan)
10yards of elevation with 49-53 degree landing angle (ideal 7 iron landing angle) 8.7 to 7.5 yards more distance. (From TrackMan uni)
Therefore if you'd add both up.. You're indeed right hitting from the 3rd floor with a range ball would equal using a premium golf ball from level ground. This is of course assuming that both range balls are similar.
Cheers! | |

| I experienced some 10-15% lost of distance when I hit range ball at the ground level of OCC range ... Sentosa Range uses premium Nike balls at the range for its members ... | |

| I think the range balls in punggol easily lose 10 to 15 yards.. | |

| To make things even trickier, some ranges have a gentle upslope (eg 200m mark is at higher elevation than 100m mark). And many ranges have incorrect distance markings (eg the 100m mark is not actually 100m away). | |

| The 150m mark on the right at OCC range feels really far even when you are playing from the middle of the range... - Turbo wrote:

| Thanks everyone esp jhan18 with the insightful and logical analysis. As pointed out by timlim, some distance markers appear visibly inaccurate, making short game distance rather fruitless. Any tip on how to get an accurate measure of short game at the range? | |

I usually go range btw TPY or SCC range and I will use my range finder to pin the distance that I hope to engage. It will make the training at the range more real for me...... But most ranges the distant markers are abt 10% shorter than the distance stated, that what I found from the bays I usual hit from. | |

Sentosa Range uses premium Nike balls at the range for its members ... Bro, I believe the left and right 150m markings are meant for the golfers at the extreme right and left bays ... Notice that the marks are slanted and facing the extreme right and left bays respectively? If you view from the middle of the range bays, you would find the marks located very far ... The bays of the OCC range are arranged in a semi circle format ... If you hit from the middle bay, you should use the middle markings ... One of my pals has used his bushnell rangefinder to check the accuracy of the markings, he told me that they are quite accurate with a tolerance of +/- One metre ...

| I guess the condition of the range balls should also make a difference. I like OCC because they change their balls quite frequently, unlike Punggol where the balls are very worn out and you frequently find balls with parts of the outer cover chipped off. | |
