You can shorten the top meaning end of grip area, but never
shorter the tip.. spec and every thing else will changed drastically!

There are several places to do it ... You need to maintain the existing grip? Or you plan to replace the existing grip with a new one and hence the Technician can destroy it in the process of pulling it out?

The labour cost should not be more than $10. If you want to replace it with a premium grip ($15), they may not even charge you for the labour cost of cutting the shaft ... Try the friendly shop - Golf Simply at 2nd level of FESC ... Drop by in the afternoon as the qualified fitter, Raymond will only be there in the afternoon ...

Is there some reason you would not consider gripping down by half an inch instead?

1) It's free, the cheapest way to shorten the shaft.

2) There's still the option of the extra half inch to play with later on without having to buy a longer new shaft.

Thanks.
I honestly didn't think about doing this!
Maybe I'll try to hold one inch lower first, if still no good then cut the shaft

No worries Branong. Very Happy

Lopping off half an inch isn't really going to make much of a noticeable difference other than to your wallet.

In any case, it's quite common to see players on the PGA and LPGA grip down for more control. Sergio Garcia does it with his irons, Lydia Ko grips down with a hybrid to control her distance but keep the high trajectory into greens, and the most famous one who gripped halfway down the rubber on his driver was Anthony Kim.

So you're in good company.

i happen to chokes down on all clubs except putter. driver by 1.5 inches. hybrid by 2 inches and irons by 1 inch. mainly i blame the the manufacturers for making clubs too long for asian build. especially taylor made. a tour rbz 5 hybrid fron them is longer than a callaway 3 hybrid.

its no secret most tour pga play drivers not longer than 45'.

The decision to choke down was a desperate attempt to not duff and pull shots. guess what. it worked.

Good point Birdie!

But me not that good to do such adjustments to play around. Prefer to be fitted for a certain length and play with it.
Too many variables come around with such shifting up and down.

p.s. I will ask for strokes from you next round. hehe

 Very Happy

What variables? Only grip up or down or move ball to the left or right. I prefer to see them as different options with one club.

Was considering getting two hybrids to replace the 4 and 5 iron when I realised after watching Lydia Ko, no need. Just a single 24 deg hybrid, Grip up got 4 iron, halfway down got 5 iron. Grip one third down, same full swing, and I also solve the problem of being in between any club.

Best!  Very Happy

p.s. Now you Captain America, where got need strokes?  geek

Putter is the only club I always choke down on 1.5 inches.  lol!

Everything else I grip full unless necessary, short hitter like me needs the distance.  Swing

Bro. Cutting driver shaft will impact to swing weight. It mean make your driver feel lighter.
Must ask the fitter to get your swing weight nicely after the amendment.

I recommends Spencer at TPY range. He is good and most of the Pro let him do the change.

Griping down is a good option and over time if it becomes 2nd nature in giving you confidence and control over your shots ~ you know it's time to saw off that half or 1 inch…

Like what Birdman says, choking down is free and gripping up is also free ~ don't mess with what's not broken.

0.5 inch is a bit too little to trim... not much difference imho

I play with a 43.5 - 44 inch driver. For that, I will butt trim it 1-2 inch. Don't really like choking down because of 2 things:

1) the grip will become slimmer due to the taper of grip
2) the shaft end will protrude out too much

Take Black tape (electrical tape). Use green or yellow if it suits you. Measure the distance from the butt and tape round. That way, you will always grip the same place with your driver and get consistency.

Swing weight may change but with 0.5 inch, I bet you wouldn't notice.

Not while but the length at which you wanna grab your driver. I do that. so that I know I am always grabbing at the correct length.

How much do you actually pay to play a round of golf? Why save on trimming it and putting a nice new grip?

The point is whether trimming half an inch helps, not so much about cost saving.
