| Really depends on individual preference I guess.
For me, I dun have a 3 wood. Driver, 3H, 5-PW, 52 and 56.

| c. All depends on whether you can hit your woods + your short game style | |

| I would suggest to have 5 wood instead of 3 wood.
Driver 5 wood 3H 5-P 52 56 60 Putter

I hit hybrids better than 3W (depends on lie)...

| If you prefer hybrids then it's fine to play without a 3w unless you use it for tee shot (If your success rate for hitting 3w off the deck is low) A modern 2 hybrid loft is too close to a 3w for my liking
If you choose set up A, maybe drop the 3w (in favour of 2 hybrid) add another wedge (since you prefer hybrids)
Again, feel free to experiment and see which combo helps your game (score) Ultimately you know your own strengths and weaknesses.

| Alot depends on your skill level and most importantly, you must know the distance of each club you can achieve so that you do not have a distance gap between clubs ... For instance, if you have 3W and 5W in your bag but you hit both about the same distance ... Hence, no point having these two clubs. You may choose one to put in your bag or perhaps invest in a 4W instead ... Another example, if you can hit a 5i to 160m (carry) and a 4H to 180m (carry) ... You may need a club to hit the 170m carry distance. These are just my general take ... | |

| My take is that one must be comfortable hitting certain clubs first. I dun carry hybrids as I just can't seem to strike it well (confidence I guess)...
Hence, I carry a Driver, 3W, 5W, 4-Pw, Aw and Sw... Of cos there is the putter... And next is distance gapping... My 4i hits to abt 180yds, 5W abt 190 yds, 3W abt 200 yds... So the gap is just nice for me... Hybrids are way too inconsistent for me... I vary from 150 to 210 for a 3H...

| Thanks for advice, all.
I'm able to hit the 3w fairly consistent off the deck at about 170-180m carry. On the course, i will only use it on the fairway on flat lie.
3W - 13.5/15 deg (cant remember) 2H - 18 deg
If you see Setup B & C: the question is, should I sacrifice a 3H for a 60deg lob wedge? That will mean 4 wedges in the bag! PW, 50, 56, 60. And create a gap btw 2H and 4H.
Sacrifice long club for a short club? How useful is a LW to you?
Appreciate more advice. Thanks

| I think you should ask yourself how often do you seriously need a lob wedge vs how often you use your 3H.....
My current set up is :
D, 3W 3H, 4H, 4-P 52, 58 putter.
my 58 can double up as a 60 or a 56, depending on what's required simply by opening or closing the face....
Been playing golf for 20 yrs and only ever had a 60 deg for a couple of months before discarding cos I didn't really found it useful.
Just my humble opinion.
Cheers | |

| Setup A is good enough for average player. 2H is unnecessary if you have 3wood with you. Wedge loft not more than 56deg as SG green is not soft enough for you to create back-spin.
Driver - hit 220~240m 3Wood - hit 180-200m (only use for Par 5 or tee off) 3H & 4H - hit 170m to 200m 50/52 deg - hit between 60-80m 56deg - hit anything below 60m Wedges at least can hit 3 different distance
It is important for you to understand your club hit distance. Then you can easy know what clubs should put inside your bag. Good luck!

| my suggestion (if your hc is abt 15-24):
driver 4w 3H or 4H (whichever is comfortable for u) 5-Pw Aw Sw
i believe at that level, u dun need to carry that many long clubs....
cos it will make u work hard in your short game...

| why not just go to a golf fitter and do a gapping and see what is best for your setup? | |

| A step up that works for others may not work for you.
Why not list down your yardages and level of consistency with each of the various clubs - your ideal set up should reveal itself.

Appreciate more advice. Thanks If you really wanna sacrifice one of the wedges, you should consider removing the 50 deg wedge from your bag. In my opinion, the 60 deg wedge is very important for approach shot (70 m and below). Sometime you need to used a 60 deg wedge for very deep sand bunker or bunker with very little green to play ... If you need to play the distance of the 50 deg wedge, just choke down your PW an inch or two and/or open the clubface slightly. As for me, I keep my 50 deg wedge as I can hit 100m with it but I would usually remove my 5W or 3W ... depending the course I would be playing.

| I am probably more conventional with c type setup.
Driver, 3W, 5W, 4H 5-P, 50deg, 56deg, 60deg, Putter
3wood for teeing off tight fairways and short Par 4s (course mgmt). Still working on my optimum distance off the deck. On the other hand, i am pretty comfy with my 5 wood off fairway or rough.. As for my wedges, I tend to have more controlled swing (i.e. till 10 or 2 o'clock depending on how you see it) . My GW has been neglected lately.. My SW is more for 65m - 80m, and my LW is more 60m and below.. Yes, i ain't good yet... i can play par for 5-6 holes and still get 90 (those games are fresh in my mind... LOL...)

| Thanks all for your views. Picked some ideas including a 52/58 deg wedge setup, taking out the 2H or 3W. The 50deg wedge is important for chipping, will hv to keep it. Will try putting the 60 deg in the bag and see how useful it is. | |

| all the clubs in the bag should be clubs u have high percentage in confidence to hit. I would also add that too many clubs gives you the opportunity to make silly decisions and destroy a score. we do not need a different club for every distance to the decimal point nor can we hit to that level of accuracy.
can I suggest no irons above 7. choke down on 5 hybrid for 6 iron distance. keep a 5w. play to 100m or 110m to approach on par 5s. . so you do not need to go for all out fairway wood pure hits.
experiment and see if single digit number of clubs can get you to single digit handicap faster.

Many times keep attacking down to pin and fell short at a awkward distance of 30-40m from pin.. That's when the lie usually its very undulating, thick rough and tough shot to take.. Best is to work out your distances and play to 100-110m to approach.. Short irons easy swing yield better (less error) results.. Cheers!
