| Guys
I did a search but search results don't suggest there is a review written on how to tackle Sembawang course
I looked at the course layout, looks like there are many uphill approach shots, water in play, severe dog legs. Makes my home course NSRCC looks rather meek in comparison.
Any advice from regulars? I'm gonna play this Wed. Thanks

| But... I play Sembawang better than I play Kranji/ Changi leh.. Look for 2008 for a game... he will give you hole to hole detail description and guide.. | |

| Is it worse than Keppel?
After playing Keppel I feel like giving up golf
Took me a while to regain my confidence

| There are some blind holes in SCC, here are some tips to share.
Hole4_Par5 (dog leg left) Aim left hand side of water feature if u have a carry of at least 180m. Then u be left with abt 180m across water to the pin or 230m to middle of green from a uphill lie.
Hole5_Par4 (slight dog leg right) Aim for the tree line along the right side of fairway for a "tiger line" to pin. You shld be left with 100-120m slight uphill shot to the middle of green.
On the back 9, there is another 2 blind holes. Just aim towards the left side of the tree line lining the fairway n you will be safe.

| My only advice is that you can keep your driver in the bag on the following par 4/5 holes; 2, 3, 7, 9, 13, 16 (fairway slopes to the right, have to lay up regardless of drive) and 17 (if you can't carry 210m)......these are the holes where i've learned that the penalty for an errant drive is severe.....#3 is especially deceiving as there's also water behind your landing area....
Except for #14 every hole is reachable in regulation even for a short hitter like myself (if all prayers are answered)....but still a very tough challenge for me.....i like the course but the resident pro there is 2008......though chippy once birdied 3 in a row to start off the back nine finishing with 4 (or was it 5?) birdies for the day.......
speaking of which, the bombers play the course differently....they can put their tee off next to the green on #2 and #13....#4 and #17 par 5s are reachable in 2 for them....i wish i could share more, but my colleagues are suspicious given that i'm usually not so attentive to my screen unless i'm skiving......
keppel's easier if you can tee off straight but sembawang is much more fun.....and you will use all 14 of your clubs on this course unlike keppel.....

| If you are having a good driving day in scc, your score should be decent.
For those who are interested, this is a front 9 guide, playing from blue tee. Someone please continue the back 9..
Hole 1 Par 4 - 385m Index 4
Elevated tee box. Water on the right, need to carry 220m to clear water if your ball fade/slice right. Safe way to play is to aim left side of the fairway. If you end up going too left, second shot will be a tough uphill blind approach to the green. Assuming after a good drive towards left side of the fairway, approach shot can range from 130m-160m. Avoid right side of the green. Right side is a steep slope and high chance lost ball.
On the green: Huge green sloping uphill, left to right.
Hole 2 Par 4 - 274m Index 16
Elevated tee box. OB left and right. Birdie hole. First shot is premium. Big hitter (240m) can drive the green. Can choose driver or 5 wood to tee off. If tee off using driver, it will be a 20-30m chip for Red pin to an elevated green. There is a bunker guarding the front of the green, watch out for red pin tuck close to the bunker, don’t get too greedy and failed to carry the bunker.
On the green: Green sloping uphill
Hole 3 Par 5 – 500m Index 2
Most challenging hole in SCC. Some like to use driver but I find it risky. Sometime the ball may over run even landed on fairway. The wind and position of the tee marker on the tee box could have a big impact on your decision of your aim. Assuming from the center of the tee box, 5 wood tee off for me. Aim to the fountain on the left after the fairway. Carry 185-195m is safe. Avoid the right water at all cost. Your landing position for 1st shot will determine how to play your second shot. The is a stretch of bunker on the right at about 100-135m from the green. Water hazard on the left ending 120m from the green. Either play your second shot before the bunker on the right or select a club that can clear the bunker and water hazard.
On the green: One of the easier green in SCC. Slight 2 tier sloping uphill front to back.
Hole 4 Par 5 – 460m Index 10
Big hitter hole. 90 degree dog left. Only par 5 in SCC for an eagle opportunity. If you carry 215 above for driver, aim at the rocks straight ahead. The ball may roll down the slope and left with 150m or less to the green (depending how the ball kick and roll after landing). If it carries the rock and stays on top the slope, the approach shot will be about 180m-200m, still can put on for eagle chip/putt. Shorter hitter may choose to lay up playing to about 170-180m. Avoid landing too near the left side of the fairway as it is a severe slope and the ball may roll backward for onto the buggy track more than 50m.
On the green: straight forward green slightly slope front to back.
Hole 5 Par 4 – 332m Index 8
The tree line split the fairway into 2. If you pull or hook the ball to left, approach will be blocked by the half way house, slope and a giant tree. Aim for the fairway on the right for safe play. Approach will be between 100m to 135m hitting uphill. Avoid right side of the green into hazard.
On the green: Green slope front to back, 2 tiers.
Hole 6 Par 3 – 133m Index 18
Tee box on top, green about 2 storey down. From blue tee plays 105-110m to center of green.
On the green: Green slope upwards front to back.
Hole 7 Par 4 – 296m Index 12
Tee shot accuracy is important. OB right side. Slight dog leg left. Avoid too much left side of the fairway, likely a blocked second shot. If driver don’t carry 205m, avoid going too right, you will face a nasty lie and slope on the right.
On the green: Huge green multi tier. Approach the pin straight, avoid left and right side of the pin for severe up/down hill putt. 2 putt is good on this green.
Hole 8 Par 3 – 139m Index 14
Slightly downhill green. Play 1 club short. Watching out for blue pin, avoid playing too long over the green, coming back is tough.
On the green: Severe keropok green. 2 putt is good score.
Hole 9 Par 4 – 353m Index 6
Water hazard on the left, OB on the right from tee box to green. Aim for the bunker down the fairway, play short of the bunker (180m). Approach will be 130-150m.
On the green: Slope right to left.

| Hi there,
If you have any friends working for US Navy or MSC. They have unbelievable rates to play 9 holes & 18holes. I am not sure of your working industries but if you are in shipping line. Course wise - kind of tough & alots of up & down hills. Cheers !!

| I'm most scared of Hole 12... especially I can't tee off far. Usually, I'd slice to the right. Last week, I managed to go straight but not long enough to get on the FW so ball ended up on the slope. Lucky didn't lose the ball. | |

| Pretty much a shorter course from blue tees, short par3s, longest par4 at 398m with downhill approach, 2 par5s are reachable with at least 230m drive and precise carry area. Tough parts i would say are those short par4s with severe uphill approach. Looks are DECEIVING. My best score also comes from SCC. | |

| Nice game today, excellent weather, excellent company, golf course, course Marshall, friendly flights (when I send my tee shot to others tee box), and not to forget the wonderful fish head curry lunch. Next game to fight back to avoid paying for lunch. | |
