Bros, I have 2 questions relating to club distance determination

Question 1
Assume you have 2 sets.

First set 7 iron is loft 30.5deg, 37" length
Second set 7 iron is loft 35deg, 36.75" length (quarter inch shorter)

If first set distance is 140m, what do you reckon the second set 7 iron distance is?

Question 2
In korea they got screen golf where I can pay 20,000 won and whack and find my distance for each club calculated by the computer. In Singapore where to find such things? .......

........Don't tell me BFG hor. Cos BFG is running a business and not nice for me to just go and play play with the trackman without even knowing whether I wanna do fitting or not. I wanna go somewhere where I can pay to play and has a reasonably accurate machine.

Bro, this sounds like a PSLE maths question leh  lol!

Not sure if anyone has come up with such algorithm/formula... it will be fun to know... anyone?

for q1, its personal.
4 degrees = 15 yeards for me. i would hit that thing 120..
length has no effect for me. too long the swing goes haywire, too short the club feels weird and i will hit it thin..

for q2, go to justin han.

What can Justin Han do?

Where is he located?

What are his charges?

He got machine? Even driving range is not accurate cos the balls are not real balls. They are tweaked to fly shorter than normal distance.

Yes he has a trackman. Trackman has the ability to adjust distance based on type of ball you use.

If you wanna know your club distance, perhaps you can book a session at one of the outlets that offers golf simulator like Simigolf. I think Simigolf is located in Bukit Batok range. However, if you need guidance on swing and analysing the numbers on the computer, you need someone like Justin Han ...

Read here re Simigolf -

Hope the above helps ...

Gray, 4.5 deg less would be like 1 club lower. I would assume it would be the same as your 8 iron distance. 0.25" is too negligible to have much impact on distance.

As long as they are using Trackman, it should be very accurate be it indoors or outdoors.

I did a Swing Analysis with Wizgolf at CDANS Bukit Batok range.

It has proven to be very helpful for me to know how my shot affects my distance and game and more importantly, where to change and improve...

Things like Speed vs Impact; Spin vs Distance, Static Angles vs Actual Launch Angles...etc.

Hi Gray,

Another option would be using http://www.golfrepublic.org/t24870-indoor-golf-simulator-bukit-batok-driving-range.

The pricing has changed, current promotion is 20sgd for 18holes. Since you wanna test distance, you can call and negotiate pricing for driving range simulation. To further verify the accuracy, you can prep by swing some balls at the actual driving range.

Cheers!

Just to be the devil's advocate
Need to do this meh? Seriously? scratch

I used to have two sets, now gotten rid of one not because I'm not sure of the distance per club in each set, but the pain of getting use to each set makes my scores worst

But then again, to each his own...

Assuming good contact, shafts which are similar weight and club head weight similar, the 2nd set should be 1 club shorter, i.e. 4 deg loft approximates 1 club

Of course if the club head designs are very different, e.g. GI vs pure blade, then while the distance gap of a good strike on both sets will be 1 club, the average distance might be more than that, you have to take in the forgiveness of the head into consideration

Assuming you have spare sets for the same reason as I used to do, 1 for travel, 1 for local play and perhaps 1 to park overseas in a friends place, and they all have diff specs, then I would recommend that you "zero" in your sets by figuring out for each set, which club are u using for 100m and which club for 150m.  Then just play each set as it is, and don't compare between the numbers on the club.

Of course, if 1 set is giving u much better dispersion at the same distance, e.g. at 100m you hit the ball much better with 1 set, then it is probably worth a trip to a fitter to see what can be done to the 2nd set to bring its characteristics closer to the first.

Note: I am referring to left right dispersion at the same distance, it does not matter if you are using 2 different club numbers between the 2 sets to hit that distance.

Hope that helps ... although reading back through what I posted, it sounds pretty confusing ...  Beer

Many thanks Derek.

I think your advise is sound. Play each set for its own characteristics and not compare between sets. I just need to bring each set to a simulator to get the distance reading tuned.

I have 3 sets at home. One is for my family & friends when they visit from overseas.

The other 2 are a forged set and a cast set.

The cast set is for forgiveness and I already have a good gauge of the distance of that set. That set has brought my score from 100s to currently high 80s low 90s.

Now I am thinking of "graduating" to my forged set. A set which I had bgt a long time ago when I had an itchy backside and when my skill level was not able to handle it. I just bgt and kept it in my store, hardly gaming it. Now I am thinking of gaming it again and that's where the question of distance comes about. I guess I just have to get used to it even if it means a higher score in the first few games.

BTW, I like your post on the connection of the swing and not the mechanics. I feel similar at times too. Helps me watch out and remind me to keep it more feeling based instead of academic based.

Gray,

I agree with Ace. Stick to one. Sell your burner and rbz. Keep naka. Or keep burner, sell naka. One is enough. We need to be faithful. Smile

All have their merits. Burner is forgiving and I go to it when my form is less, Naka is really sweet to hit but difficult. RBZ is in between. I love all of them equally.

I prefer golf clubs whose distance is reachable by car or taxi. If can walk or take bicycle, all the better.
