| Hello fellow GRians especially NSRCC members.
This is for your info if you do not know yet. If u have a handicap card with an expiry date later then your membership expiry, the card is null and void.
I found this out today. I was a member and my membership expired in March 2013. I was told that the handicap card is valid for a year. As I was considering MGK, or other clubs to maintain my handicap after NSRCC, I thought I have 1 year to consider. The customer service officer in NSRCC Changi reassured me that the validity is up to March 2014 even though my membership is expiring in March 2013. So I was issued a handicap card.
I played in Kranji last month. They requested my handicap so I handed them the NSRCC issued card with expiry date March 2014. They were hesistant and unsure and consulted their manager. After I emphasised that there shouldn't be any problem since the card is issued by NSRCC themselves, they allowed me to play.
Today they said that I am not allow to play because they do not recognise my handicap card. They said that as my membership has expired in March 2013, NSRCC ceased maintaining my handicap. They explained that it is within some USPGA regulations.
I do not know of such regulations due to my inexperience.
I just find that NSRCC is very misleading. If the validity also expires once my membership expires, why bother to issue the card in the 1st place. Just indicate expiry date same as membership expiry date.
It goes against common sense to be issued a card by themselves with an expiry date March 2014 and cannot be use. I find it comical and ridiculous. Sheer waste of my time and effort going there today.
regards. | |

| To blame the USPGA is laughable, Any PGA has nothing to do with handicaps, handicaps are for amateurs of which PGA members are not. I would make an enquiry with the SGA www.SGA.org.sg they maintain all handicaps in Singapore regardless of where they are issued. SGA Telephone: (65) 6755 5976 | |

| I find it strange that the handicap card is for 1 year. I mean your handicap changes over time, based on the most recent 20 cards submitted. In my club, Johore Golf and Country Club, the handicap card is issued on monthly basis. If NSRCC issues the card on yearly basis, how then do they "maintain" your handicap?? | |

For recognize hcp in Singapore, all handicap can be found on the website. Therefore, in Singapore, hcp cards are not issued on a monthly basis, something like an old school.

| Bro beehome There's a cost in maintaining hcp for members and it's laborious work... Thus, I understand the logic of a club / association only maintaining hcp for their own members.. However, I agree with you that it is both an administrative oversight and shortcoming on it's services if they refused to let you play because of expired (in their system) hcp, while your physical hcp card issued by they themselves still shows its validity... It's even more ludicrous to come think that you as a former paying members for the past years were made to go home cos of this... If it makes you feel better, I welcome you to TMCC.. No hcp card needed mate ! | |

| My point is to make the expiry date of handicap card = expiry date of membership. It is simple and straightforward. Will not lead to confusion and misunderstanding.
@Bro Shorthitter - I don't know if the manager is putting blame on the PGA. Whatever he said, I was none the wiser.
This post is basically to inform fellow bros here who are unaware.
@Bro Hillgreen - As for writing to NSRCC, I don't know. I have given some feedback to them while I was still a member but nobody replied. I don't know if other NSRCC members have similar experience. Cheers!

| Mr Chien free game at TMCC if no handicap card???? I like leh I am really surprise Kranji is so strict now. I never had any problems at Kranji with my guests. Just tell them they are member of ABC club in China. They knew China don't issue handicap card. They don't even have handicap system except for a few clubs in the South. | |

| Beehome, We discuss this before, I believe the logic is that NSRCC views that since you are no longer a member therefore your handicap is no longer valid and therefore nullified. This is because you are no longer a member and doesnt pay any hcp maintenance fees for the rest of 2013. This is despite the fact the card stating it is valid till 2014. | |

| it's ridiculous the way NSRCC are treating their own members now. now there's even a promotion on weekends where guests/non-members enjoy member price so long as there's one member in the flight, resulting in full flights and high demand such that members themselves can't enjoy the course. most have terrible etiquette and are extremely slow players. hope the committee rethinks its idea. | |

| I thought NSRCC has a rule that players of a certain hcp then can play weekend. So how come slow play??? This is Changi or Kranji? The $98/- promo @ kranji on sunday afternoon? | |

If u seen that, you should inform the course marshals to push them to meet the required timing but if they are adhesive to the timing, there is no claim that they are slow. Take it easy n enjoy the game, why rush thru it.

| Hope to contribute on what I know about handicap card here. I am not working for NSRCC or any clubs.
Handicap card are maintained by a golf club (country club or non-estate like mgk, ssg, etc). When you are no longer a member with them, who maintain for you? Obviously the handicap card will ceased to be valid. They have no obligation to maintain it for you. The handicap card is issued for your convenience should you need to play in other clubs (local and overseas) and perhaps NSRCC has been nice to issue for a year. Think NSRCC should have issued the handicap card with validity of 1 month or 2. As most know that handicap index changes every month, it's logically wrong to issue a handicap card with a certain index for whole year. Some clubs practiced issuing a plastic card with monthly stickers to be pasted on reverse side for the change in handicap index.
Once you terminate membership from one club, you should quickly get another club to transfer them. Normally they will keep for a month or so, but it depends on the club policy, some may just delete immediately upon your expiry.
In Singapore, SGA is the official central body to control the handicap system in Singapore under the USGA guidelines. All clubs will have to submit their members handicap index details to them, however it comes with a fee.
Just sharing. | |

| To all bros that have responded to this thread, thank u. Yes, understand that all clubs terminate their hcp maintenance once one membership expires. In my case with NSRCC, I believed I was badly advised by the customer service officer. The validity for 1 year also tends to lead to misunderstanding. The best solution is to make things clear like stating the expiry date will ceased with expiry of membership". MGK recognised my NSRCC-issued hcp card on the very day that I signed up with them last month. I used this card to play in 2 other golf courses in Singapore but was eventually disallowed to play in Kranji. How ironic! Anyway I have let the matter passed. Now I have my hcp card from MGK and can play with peace of mind. Let's just golf la! | |
