| Saw keppel membership at 18,000... with 8 years left to go on current lease. that makes it 2250/year, which comes up to about 20-25 rounds of golf a year.
would it make sense to get keppel membership instead of playing at mbgc @141/game for a year? i play around 4 times a mth so thats around 50 games a year, which means i would spend about 7k a year on golf. getting keppel membership means i would save around 5k a year..
i played there once and found the course challenging, loved it.
ppl who are members at keppel, what do u think? do u have any idea what are the future plans for keppel? and is 18k a good price for it now? what are the maintenance fees if any?

| This should help: IMHO, based on your expenditure at MBGC, even if there's no lease extension or new location granted, it's still worth it. I know quite a few NSRCC members who have refused to renew their membership and have instead joined Keppel as it's cheaper, with the monthly sub and buggy fees factored in. But setback would be the single 18 hole golf course | |

| I considered this one quite a bit but decided against it. Partly because the lease is expiring and I'm not sure where it'll end up, partly also because I didn't quite like the course layout but mostly because most of my golfing mates play at a different course. I supply fresh blood so need to maintain those ties | |

| I think it's a good buy at $19K. Back in late 2009 I was contemplating buying it at $29K after a round of golf with my friends who are members but my wife advised against it and commented why should I restrict myself to one club when I can play anywhere I want in JB without subscription and with the higher capital outlay. Thinking back I lost S$32K in Pulai Springs when I joined in 1994 as an investment. I gave up that membership after a few years due to over-supply. I was fortunate I listened to her.
Today, it make more sense. My friends were members there too though they bought at a higher price of $30+K. Keppel will be relocating to NE (it remains to be confirmed after 4 years of speculation). Keppel is cash rich. That piece of land at Keppel is worth lots of money. If the relocation do happen (it most likely will from what I know), members might be asked to top-up an amount (TBC).
All in all, I believe it's a worthwhile investment, with the impending new course in the NE sector of Singapore coming up in the next few years.
But don't take my words for it. I might be speculating but personally I think it's a good buy at the moment.

| hderp We still haven't played our game There's been a lot and a lot of discussions on this in this forum so perhaps you can check them up... Everybody has their own preference, limitations and opinions.. So there's really nothing right or wrong.. But lets present the facts of the Club first before anything else.. 1. Keppel is confirmed moving 2. The land Does Not belong to Keppel Club, it belongs to PSA.. Thus Keppel Club unlikely will benefit from the sales of the land.. 3. Nobody can say for sure where exactly it is going to move to at this moment 4. It's good to check out the reserves the club has at this moment. That would give you an idea whether you be faced with another Laguna issue 8 years later. I'm glad you are buying a club cos I strongly believe thats one way forward when you wish to improve your golf and make golf a part of your life. (of cos, limitations otherwise) I was a Keppel member and am a TMCC member as well as NSRCC member. I think these questions would be important for you when making a decision which club to buy: 1. Where do you stay/work? Many find me weird to be going TMCC when I live in Holland. Though Singapore is not that big, perhaps you like your club to be nearer to where you live. 2. Have you played in other clubs before already? Like RCC Jurong Seletar OCC etc... All these clubs are not that expensive and some are offering installment schemes to ease the purchase. I am very impressed with Jurong and I understand RCC is going to renovate their Palm. Seletar is very challenging as well and the condition is good. 3. Are you the sort who like to play with friends or you are perfectly fine teeing up alone or join flights ? I love to walk alone and I'm equally comfortable to join flights. But if you only play when your kakis are then it's important to join the club where your kakis play. 4. Understand from your posts you love going to range. Please note public can access some of the clubs ranges, like OCC, JCC, Keppel Warren etc.. Thus, if you wanna join a club cos of convenience to range then you don't really need to worry about it.. 5. Of cos, financial commitments.. Clubs are depreciating purchase at this time. Factoring the transfer cost, please be prepared to hold on the club for long time. 6. Whether you be happy paying to play at other clubs even you have membership at one.. I play at mbgc as often as tmcc.. Silly but it's true.. Of cos, other factors come into mind like prestige of the club, the mix of the club members etc.. I hope before you think about whether this club is worth buying, you consider it long term. I was stupid not to buy Sentosa when it was going for 90k.. But, nowadays I just pay 200 bucks once a month or so there.. Have fun ! | |

| thanks for your long post chien!
i was just thinking in terms of cost. i dont mind playing alone or with friends too.
for mbgc, i spend about 7k a year. for 8 years that will be 56k, compared to 19k for keppel, + 20x4 + 80 maintenance fees per mth, which is 34k in total for 8 years. thats a 22k difference. even if i dont continue with keppel after 8 years when it shifts, i still save 22k over the 8 years..
i work at queensway so its very near keppel. now trying to convince my girlfriend to buy our matrimonial house at telok blangah.. haha

Though it's more expensive but the course is challenging as well.. RCC is not easy too and it has 2 x 18 holes. They are offering installment plans and you don't have to worry about it 8 years later.. Lastly, are you sure you will be happy playing Keppel every week? OCC weekends rate for mgk members is about the same as mbgc and there are many good golfers in this forum playing there on weekends... Lastly, would you like to play different courses every now and then ? I can't play mbgc every week neither can i do tmcc every week too... If you like varieties then do you really wanna join a club? Sorry mate.. just being devil advocate here...

| What clubs do you reckon will still be around in 8 years time? I was told that JCC is not part of the masterplan for the Jurong region - have no time/means to verify it.
Sorry to OT the thread. Thanks.

| Keppel don't have min spending If you join Keppel and walk 9 or 18 during weekdays. Then no need buggy fee. Can save some $$ too. I sometimes walk too in the morning. And sometime we can go and ballot for reciprocal games for eg Warren, Seletar, Jurong, OCC and Sembawang too. Give me a buzz or PM if you join. Can play 1 or 2 round together. I am an average player looking to break 80 at MBGC too | |

| I too am tempted to sign up, but the cash outlay and the min of 3 ball on weekends too right? Moreover, I play like max twice per month, so thinking if its worth it.
Cheers! | |
