My Secret to hitting long off tee - 180m + roll

Very sorry as there was no intention to mis lead anyone.....received a text by someone to remind me to clarify this.....

so here is my updated

My secret to hitting it long using driver means 170m (NOT 180m) => and that 170m equates to carry + roll

Few things I started to pay more attention:

1. grip with fingers

2. Turn my shoulder instead of just my arms

3. focus on following thru and keeping the driver head as low as possible after contact....

4. lastly...pray that the ball does not do 'power slice'

after rehearsing it at the range .....so far so good

i try not to swing too hard, the more important thing is to complete your swing.

Tried my newly brought $59 old model diablo edge driver with a 50g regular shaft and it out drove my cobra S2 by at least 30m.

You also need to use your waist to generate club head speeds. belt buckle turn first followed by shoulders and arms.....

These days, I follow my coach's advice. Throw your club in the air, i.e. followthrough. This allows the ball to launch.

One way is to hover the clubhead instead of grounding it at address just before pulling the trigger ...

Ok, just a personal experience. I did tried at Mandai Range last Sunday. I managed to hit my further drive.

• I changed my driver's loft from 11.5 to 9.5. The attempt made was because I was trying to reduce spin as I always launched drives with tremendous backspin. In normal condition, my ball will likely to spin up high towards the tail end of the launch and drop like a dead bird.

• Teed up the ball high and was aligned to my left heel.

• Stance - Right foot slightly behind left foot to help inside to out path as we are encouraging ascending swing and correct D plane. Tilted my left shoulder towards the horizon (really looking at the horizon ) that I was trying to imagine to launch the ball.

• Swing & Boom! I was amazed with most of the shots (of course, cannot be amazed with all, right?!), the ball went up high (like my 11.5 launch angle). It had somewhat boring flight but I didn't spin up like before. It ended up landing further with more roll.

Well, pray that this would stick

Using a 3W shaft on a driver head usually means a heavier and shorter shaft on a relatively light head - may work for some, but my guess is the swingweight may fall and this may alter your tempo.

A good clubfitter can do the balancing for you though, and once done, with a shorter shaft, getting good contact is going to be easier. Many GRians are playing with shorter driver lengths - 44.5" or 44", as are PGA TOUR pros.

Interesting to place the right foot slightly to the back when hitting the ball to encourage a inside to outside swing, will try this on the course.....
