| 40m shot to the pin, that's a very general statement with very broad and many possibilities. The amazing thing about golf when it comes to this is there is no right or wrong. There's only which is a better option in giving one the best chance of making the shot, taking in a few factors into consideration. So, choose the club and type of shot that you feel you are most comfortable with, that give you the best chance of making it If you think it is a putter, then putter it is. if you think it is a 60deg, then 60deg it is and so forth... | |

| 40 m. My de facto choice of approach is to".......duff a hybrid! Or slam top a 3 wood. Maybe even chunk a 6 iron. For me , all of the above always 40m. | |

| As 9 points mentioned, many ways to skin a cat.
One other solution if duffing, topping, or confidence is an issue, then perhaps using anything from a 9 to a mid iron could be an option, since the same chipping motion with a lower lofted club will result in more distance for the same effort.
Also, the lower loft allows for a smaller swing, and a smaller swing means less margin for error, ergo, no duff or top.

| How come nobody mentioned shanking? Shank one to the fringe, then chip and putt ... Bogey!
Lol! As if golf is that easy

| I dunno if this will help you guys but I work out a routine using my 51 Deg wedge for distances of 40m, 50m, 60m, 70m and 80m
Same half swing pitch with ball slightly off centre, nearer to the right foot.
only difference is the right thumb position on the grip and the distance I stand from the ball
40m = right thumb at edge of grip, touching the shaft 50m = right thumb just above the line beneath the Golf Pride words on the grip 60m = right thumb on the d of priDe 70m = right thumb on O of gOlf 80m = right thumb just above the G.......
Give it a try if you're struggling, it helps take out a lot of the guess work, from an already tough shot.

| I will use a hyb chip if there is lots of green to run, the ball skip over the rough nicely.
If there is hazard in btw, I will use my 54* with half swing and pray hard I take a divot for a pin high landing.
Another good read which is super useful to break my 6mth jinx.
Will have to play more often with Haragolfer so that I can fully understand his method to play 80s. 5/5 sounds reasonable.
