Think for putter, you can just get any second hand ones that are still in good condition, after all you just need it to practice, maybe budget $50-80? enough for a pretty good putter. Or hunt bargain stores, i got a new tm rossa putter from golf bargain at just $60.

Hi Cadbury,

Personally i would suggest that you can pick up golf from a reputable instructor. There is alot of difference between a good instructor and someone who just charges you cheap on the good. For all sports, i think fundamental is very important. Else it is very tough to correct them once you get used to all the wrong things like swing.

As for gear, some good places to pick up golf provide you with gear even outside of lesson for you to practise. I would also suggest to pick up the game first and when you are more consistent with your fundamentals, get your instructor to recommend the type of irons you should be using to improve your game.

A wrong equipment right from the start can make or break your interest level.
Just remember that cheap does not mean good. And good does not mean expensive. Its a very personal thing when it comes to golf. Until you are consistent, its still very subjective.

thanks crit for your advice! sounds very reasonable for a pure newbie like me.

For a beginner, I would suggest getting two resale clubs that should not cost much, say a 7 and a 9 iron to start off. This is for you to practise with whilst undergoing lessons with a pro. At this point, when you are still tryng to establish your swing, it will be difficult to determine what clubs suit you. You will also find out if you really like the game. Alternatively, you can buy a full second hand set that you can later sell off and change to something more suitable to you and to your liking after you have established your commitment to the game and built up a swing. Just food for thought.

Well, you can always get a brand new set of irons that do not match your current loose iron or irons.

but i think he's suggesting that you can buy a few loose clubs just for the initial learning stage, then once you're sure that you will continue, you can then buy a set. this is probably a better idea if you're unsure whether you'll stick with golf... heh...

Use your instructor's club. I'm sure he has plenty of 7 Iron. Until you are absolutely sure that you are sticking to the sport for long term, stick with your instructor's club.

There's a high chance you won't touch your other clubs until at least 6 months of consistent, continuous and regular training.

check out the dan plan , google it, see if his approach can work for you.

Well u can always try out one piece 1st, then if you really into the game then you can get a set of irons and putter. Then you can go on executive course liao.

I've a beginner (Gosen) set to let go cheaply; driver, woods, irons, putter and golf bag. I just have a couple of conditions; I prefer to let go to beginners trying to pick up the game, and secondly, once you're done with it, do pass it on to other fellow beginners at the similarly cheap price. Cadbury, this is a very good offer and I will take it if I were you. As a beginner, any decent set will be good enough to start with. Later, when you have developed some understanding of the game and determine that you want to game seriously, then you can look for your own preferred set and smilarly pass on the old set to another beginner. Golf requires much dedication to play well. Some are lucky to have good eye-hand coordination and ball sense etc and picks up the game real fast. But many have also laboured and lost love for the game for many reasons. Don't be in a hurry to spend your $. You will not lack future opportunities to burn that hole in your pocket!
