In golf, size do not really matter. And this is probably the only sport that have players from all age, size and gender. Very Happy

Of cos it matters... Why do you guys think I'm afraid of Guy !? Very Happy

Seriously it helps with the distance... It makes the diff between 7i and 9i. Or P even... When the drive is 270m vs 240m, it becomes a different ball game...

But having said that, small doesn't mean sure lose ok ! Laughing

It matters. height affects radius. Weight affects moment of inertia. Used in combi with a proper swing it is deadly.

If tall and heavy with no swing also not use but if two persons of equally good swing and skill but one is short and light and the other is tall and heavy, the tall and heavy will hit further.

then some people say distance does not matter. It does.

430m par 4. a person that can drive 280m will be left with 150m. He can use a 7 or 8 iron and get a 2 on with little roll.
same 430m par 4. A person that can drive only 220m will still be left with 210 and need to use a 3 wood and the ball rolls on landing. Moreover compare using a 3 wood with 7 iron, a 7 iron is more easy to use with less chance of error compared to a 3 woods and hence more accurate.

Agree with this too. But there are many other factors that affects the game, and size is just one of the factors.

I am 6ft 2in tall with a very deliberate and smooth swing tempo.

My friend is 5ft 2in with a much faster and aggressive swing tempo. He hits it longer than me.

Another single handicapper friend of mine, 50 years old (as compared to the above two 30+ year olds), has a smooth swing tempo. He is just as long as my 5ft 2in friend.

It goes to show that an efficient swing can generate a further distance than one that relies on brute force and physical size. My 50year old friend has an average smash factor of 1.49 to 1.51

DGman can attest to that. He once said that my friend is his preferred equipment tester as he hits it on the sweet spot 8 out of 10 times and can adjust his swing to the equipment in his hands.

In addition, flexibility and right technique are important components to be factored in the long drive equation ... cheers Good examples are Rory McIlroy and Anthony Kim who are much shorter than Matt Kucher and TW but can hit as far as the latter two if not further ...

Of course size matters. Without a shadow of a doubt it gives you an advantage.

Balance is the key of all sports. Size, strength, flexibility... Size is only advantage.

although i agreed to this, one of my friends had also countered by if you drive shorter... you also get to hit first. So you can put pressure on your playing partner (assuming a little betting to make the game more exciting) if you get onto the green first.

personally i believe it is more about technique and swing than size.
