| DISNEYLAND SINGAPORE: Disneyland May Be Built At Marina East Walt Disney confirmed that Disneyland is in talks with the Singapore Government to build a theme park in Singapore. Singapore Tourism Board says they are looking at all avenues to bring tourism growth into Singapore to achieve the 2015 Tourism target. Disney says they are totally not interested in building a theme park in Malaysia, and has never started any negotiations with the Malaysians. According to sources, Disneyland Singapore will be constructed next to Marina Bay Golf Course. This piece of land is very near to the city. Across the waters will be the new Marina Bay Downtown. And facing the land is a unobstructed view of the sea. Behind the land is the high end Tanjong Rhu residential area. It takes less than 30 minutes to travel from Changi Airport to the potential site. And this piece of land is an exceptionally golden piece of prime land. For example, the 20.6 hectres of land for the Marina Bay Sands was sold to Las Vegas Sands at S$1.2 billion. And last year, the 3.55 hectres of land from the new Marina Bay Downtown was sold off to conglomerates at S$1.8 billion. The land size the Govenrment will allocate to Walt Disney is still under discussion, but sources revealed that the size of Disneyland Singapore will be roughly the same as Disneyland Tokyo. Disneyland Singapore will be a more compact theme park with some of its attraction built inside buildings. As the Marina East land is next to the sea, Disneyland Singapore will most probably have a sea theme or a futuristic theme to it. Analysts say that the Marina Bay Golf Course may be returned to the Government once their lease is up, so that Disneyland Singapore can begin construction of the second phase of their theme park. | |

| I firmly believe that any open air theme park in our part of the world will not do well in the long term. The weather is far too hot or wet or humid to make the fun worth waiting for.
Don't get me wrong - it's a nice idea to have Disneyland in Singapore but unless they can keep the crowds cool and dry throughout of the year, I'll stick to visiting the Zoo or any of the other wildlife parks where the environment matches what the visitors are there to see.

| Yeah...i sure didnt enjoy all the waiting time in legoland. No shades, sweaty under the sun, then drenched in rain, and the 5 hours wait for 10mins of rides, no effing express pass.

| I would rather play golf than go to Disneyland. What is this nonsense. We already have universal studios. Where are our chances for us golfers. That means more packed golf lessons/golf course which equals to more people giving up golf maybe because they can't afford to go Malaysia or indonesia due to transportation reasons? COE is rising still. This ultimately sucks man. | |

I was drenched in sweat when I waited around at HK Disneyland. Perhaps it's ok when it's cool but if it's not, it's a nightmare and certainly not the happiest place on earth.

| Golf is a game for the affluent. Whether you like it or not. If golf was made accessible to the masses here in terms of price and accessibility , it would be akin to the government making a Ferrari affordable for everyone .
Maybe if the people complaining about this issue spent more time at work then sneaking off for a weekday game maybe you too would be able to afford a golf membership

Jeez... does every discussion have to lean towards the "population issue"?

im a regular @ MBGC...would be a pity if we lose her..... I'm not a big fan of MBGC though I do like it's convenience. That said, I'll be disappointed to see it go as well. The views from the course are to die for and it's almost iconic for Singapore. I've got friends in the US who know of MBGC as the "course with a view" though they've never heard of the Merlion.

Agreed. I was playing with a guy from US who parachuted into our flight and he was commenting that the views are awesome and the grounds are comparable to some of the TPC clubs that he played in the US. I'm secretly suspecting that the course won't go though, if you looking at the layout, with Gardens by the Bay and East Coast Park, this forms a "green lung" that will support the recreational activities for the new downtown. I'm just guessing though...

| Well, you never know what is going to happen until it happen. Look at Budget Terminal. Built and completed in 2005. Less than 8 years after opening to a grand fanfare they decided to tear down the terminal. A complete waste of money.
If the decision is to close MBGC, I will not be surprised.
