| Just came back from a round of morning golf with some colleagues at one of the executive courses... it felt good to get out for some exercise on a bright Sunday morning. After the game, we went for lunch... something funny happened - on the way to the carpark, there was a pavement meant for walking... and beside the two sides of the pavement was grass... a few of us just automatically stepped onto the grass, even though the pavement was clear... then one of us commented that we must be too into golf... too drawn to walking on the grass than on proper roads! haha. Anyway, wanted to bring something else up - during the game today, we encountered some workers (not sure if those were marshalls) who were kind of mowing the grass on the fairway. so they stopped and watched us three girls hit the balls. They laughed really loud when our balls went into the ball or when we had an air shot. I thought that was really rude! and not just for one hole... they followed us for about 3 holes i think. I think golf country clubs should really educate their workers / marshalls on how to behave... Speaking of that, another thought off the top of my head - has any of you ever encountered any fellow golfer who shows you the black face and makes snibe remarks when he or she thinks that you are playing slower than he or she? Or did you guys always play with really encouraging golfers? On a separate note, what kind of golfer are you? The kind to get irritated easily when you think people are more "sub-standard" than you or the really patient type? I thought I had a fellow golfer today who was really encouraging... YVON! 3 cheers for you. | |

| i made the mistake of teeing with a pink noodle ice (actually i dont want to waste the other ball, so use the pink ball) but the flight behind me gave me a strange look, have a small laugh WITH my flight mates BEFORE i tee off and i process to hook it and almost hitting some1 at another the adjacent hole. My flight mate then proceed to tell me 'nicely' to play my white balls for the rest of the game...................thus my phobia with pink. another game, my flight mate also almost hit a gardener at the last hole...line drive and miss the guy 50m away who was gardening in between the tee box and hole. As my flight mate process to tee another ball, they quickly run sideways this was all at Executive. | |

| Normally the better the golfer, the more patient they are with beginners. | |

| Star, you might need to bring a hunk to golf next time ....
Pls be alert at EGC. There is almost no rule at EGC and ppl can be out wild and unexpected, players and workers alike. After so many times there, I ever seen only once the "marshal" came across the fairway in a bugger. At a closer look, it was the malay lady casher rushing pass for some purpose.
I ever joined one stranger at EGC, quite a decent skilled player. But at hole 7, he got impatient waiting the kids in front, pull out a 7irons and shot a few old balls over the ram into the resevior on the right. That is actually accessible jogging track and what he ever said was "those are old balls."

| For me...not really black face but quite interesting choice of words to report score.
He will shout out ' BEAT U BY ONE STROKE' if he beats me....

| I only lost my temper once on course. And that is with a fren who is like a 2 hcp. He then pull me one corner said this,'You practise 3 times a week hitting about 100 balls each time. I practise 3 times a week hitting an average of 500 balls, and yet I dont dare to get angry on the course. Annoyed? Maybe....but not angry. So what makes you think you got the right to show your temper on the course?'
After that I dont get angry anymore....annoyed? Yea...all the time.....but not angry..... Even if my score sucks big time....I will still finish off with a smile and focus on the company I am with......Cos I am just thankful I can play golf.....

| I lose my temper on the course all the time but I realize that it doesn't help. It's like a vicious cycle... I cuss, curse, swear, throw my club, kick the tree, punch the ground and scream at a nearby squirrel, AND it only gets worse.
Golf is a very zen game. The more your concentration is disrupted, the more difficult it is to play. It's tough, but I try to remind myself that one bad shot doesn't mean the entire game is lost. Refocus. Refocus. REFOCUS!!
Get back on track and things will be ok. Besides, what did the squirrel do to upset my game anyway?

| Golf is a social game, thus watever we do or however we behave always has an impact on the others in our flight. Ever played with someone who is happy and the whole flight is then having fun? Conversely, when someone slams clubs into things or throws temper after bad shots, notice how the whole flight is quiet for 18 holes?
Not to mention when we slam clubs we end up damaging property which is not ours. Who likes taking a buggy with broken bits that don't work or with broken windscreens?

| Ssquirel, you were a scout before is it? Cos that's what I learnt too.
Leave the course in as good, or if not in a better condition than when you found it.
Golf course got no maids to clean up after us....

Who likes taking a buggy with broken bits that don't work or with broken windscreens? oops, i didn't know that they are still reusing that buggy after i whacked it with my driver and my irons and my impact stick. on a sidenote, after observing the pros at BSO, alot of them actually are very conscious about the course, repairing divots, throwing their divots at their caddies to replace them into the ground, repairing all pitch marks that they see on the green, even if not made by them or in their line of putt.. however, i did see adam scott lose his temper up close on the 2nd round.. he must have uttered F*** at least 10 times, walking from the fairway to the green. i also saw another pro, dragging his driver along the buggy track, and also whacking his putter on the hard concrete ground. after he did that, the putter had some rattling noise inside. crazy thing to do, especially in a competition. needless to say, he performed quite badly in the competition. at the end of the day, golf is a game of temperament also.

| joleelyn - throwing putter against tree is so scary... i would be quite 心痛 actually, cos you have to spend money buying it also? victor - on me needing to bring a hunk to golf... yah, that might work... but i wouldn't want the hunk to start cursing and swearing at the rude workers too... must be gentlemanly... any hunks willing to golf with me then? nientsu - your friend sounded very logical... if we perform badly on the course... i guess it's always got something to do with ourselves? e it bad temper, quick to lose cool etc... i also agree that some players may be slow (like erm, me?) but if everyone enjoys the game, it's still a good 18-hole played! if not, why spend money and effort getting angry throughout the 18-hole? i've a friend who tells me more than once than golf is a game of patience and positive thinking... if you keep saying you can't, then you can't... and he says players who lose focus towards the end of the 18 holes are usually more temperamental... means not able to carry things till the end... | |
