| It is such a sad Sunday morning for me after I have read this news... No more words that I can express no more Oh god NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The horror wrought by a lone gunman on this close-knit community crystallized Saturday afternoon as the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook school massacre were publicly identified. Among the dead were the educators who hailed as heroes -- the school's principal and psychologist, who didn't hesitate to rush toward the sound of the gunfire, and the first-grade teacher who used her body to shield her tiny charges from the bullets. Six of the victims were adults. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/15/sandy-hook-school-shooting-victims-identified/1771867/ | |

| Funny thing was, the shooter was just a nerd in school. God knows what people can do. Imagine shooting those little cute kids. Christmas is just a few weeks away. Rest in peace . | |

| Well, This isn't the first and it won't be the last as well. I feel sad for the unfortunate ones but as long as fire arms are readily available, history will definitely repeat again and again and again.... | |

| Just the US? I seem to recall Sweden had a mass shooting recently. I don't like guns myself, but it is a right written in the US Consitution. You have mentally unsound people everywhere. They are the ones doing the killing. | |

| "At least 24 Americans every day (8-9,000 a year) are killed by people with guns – and that doesn't count the ones accidentally killed by guns or who commit suicide with a gun. Count them and you can triple that number to over 25,000.
That means the United States is responsible for over 80 percent of all the gun deaths in the 23 richest countries combined."

I believe that us constitution is held dearly to many Americans, I have nothing against the right to bear arms but assault rifles with high capacity mags? That's way too many bullets for deer hunting

It did not allow me the option to choose of which parts I had to uphold and protect. It is a all or nothing proposition. Like I stated earlier, I don't like guns myself. couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with one.

| The mainland china version uses knives.. Started recently then many many copy cats. Lots of slashing, but less fatality. In the US, most victims died fr gunshot wounds.
The most recent one is in henan province, 22 children were injured. Injured, no one was killed.
That's the difference. Guns are a lot more effective and efficient at taking lives.

| The 2nd Amendment needs to be changed. I have much to say about this but the weapon making companies in US have fed a lot of senators, congressman and sponsor a lot of political campaigns....nothing will be changed, even if Obama says so...I just don't see it happening.
Till then, more innocent lives will be lost.

| Changing the 2nd Amendment may require a lot of guts and tricky for any Congress, there is too much history and love, not to mention political suicide for any party
In my humble view, the right to bear Arms is a American right, so i guess cant do anything about it, just like right to speech
the issue here is National Rifle Association, the NRA is one of the most powerful lobby groups in the country, both in terms of power and money They are the strongest lobbyist for all sort of weapons and staunch defender of the 2nd Amendment. I reckon anyone who wants to take political office will need their support in some shape or form, either in moderate or extreme manner, else no chance
The NRA only has about 4.5 million members, not a lot, but a powerful bunch who gives up very little when it comes to guns, hence they have been largesly quiet in the aftermath of this sad shooting.
till the NRA is reined in, more innocent lives will be lost, this Xmas, say a prayer for the little kiddos who are with God now.

| I hate to say this but it is ingrained in the mindset of many that it's not only their right to own a weapon but to use it when needed. I doubt we'll see any change to US legislation about gun ownership. There may be tightening of laws around buying guns but there will always be ways to get around these.
Sadly, I don't expect the situation to change. Rather, I anticipate that the only way to protect innocent lives would be to introduce additional 'barriers' like security for schools, metal detectors/scanners etc.
Guns are a way of life for our American friends, whether they like it or not.
