You could probably see what's great about TW now is that he's becoming so much happier, like a changed man ....and I don't think it has anything to do with golf. I think he's just becoming happier with his life in general, and it permeates into what you see in interviews, pressers, etc.

He probably has come to realize that life is not all about 18 holes out there.....

Tiger Woods met with the assembled media for the first time at Medinah Country Club on Tuesday morning in advance of the Ryder Cup. Here are some of the highlights of his interview session:

On whether he’s responsible for the U.S. not winning more Ryder Cups: “Certainly I am responsible for that, because I didn't earn the points that I was put out there for. I believe I was out there, what, in five sessions each time, and I didn't go 5‑0 on our side. So I certainly am a part of that, and that's part of being a team. I needed to go get my points for my team, and I didn't do that. Hopefully I can do that this week, and hopefully the other guys can do the same and we can get this thing rolling.”

On Rory McIlroy being a marked man this week: “It's part of being consistent. It's part of being ranked No. 1. It's part of winning major championships. You're always going to want to try and take out their best player, and that's just part of the deal. That's a fun challenge. I certainly have relished it over the years and I'm sure he's going to relish it this week.”

On advice for McIlroy: “Well, I'm not going to say anything; obviously he's playing for the other team. We can talk about it afterwards.”

On potential pairings: “Obviously we have an idea of what we want to do, but also then again, that can certainly change. I think we are going to go out there and see how today is, and the most important thing about these next two days is just getting to know this new golf course for us. … I'm going to need to do my homework so that whoever I go out with, that I will be ready and able to contribute and understand this golf course and how to play it.”

On Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and himself each having losing Ryder Cup records: “In order to win Cups, you have to earn points and we certainly have not earned points. And on top of that, I think that Phil, Jim and myself have been put out there a lot during those years. So if we are not earning points, it's tough to win Ryder Cups that way.”

On playing for a team instead of for himself: “For us to represent the United States of America and our teammates, it's something else. When it gets to a certain point, either Friday afternoon, late in the evening, or Saturday late in the evening, and all the teams are gathered and there's like one group out there, and if you happen to be in that group, it's interesting. It's so much heat on you, which is very different. It's different than playing by yourself. But playing for teammates, it just adds an element that – it means so much more because it is our country, and it is our teammates. We want to, in all these practice sessions, get to know each other and get our games right and be ready for the Ryder Cup week. It comes down to one moment.”

On the atmosphere in Chicago: “It will certainly be partisan, there's no doubt about it. It will be loud. It will be raucous, and it will be fun. It's the same as when we go to Europe. They get into it for their team, and our fans are going to get into it for our team. … This is a great sporting town, to begin with, and they obviously have supported the Cubs, White Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks, you name it. They just love sport, period. And for us to come in here and be part of a U.S. team I think is just going to add to that. We are going to have a great atmosphere here, and it's going to be a lot of fun. I think it's going to be fun for both sides.”

On winning the 1999 PGA Championship at Medinah: “To have won my second major was so important; it validated my first and gave me the confidence that I could go ahead and do this with this swing. And lo and behold, 2000 came around and got things rolling after that.”

On his lone Ryder Cup win in 1999: “I think the way we did it on that Sunday was – no one's ever seen it. … That was certainly an experience that – I've never been a part of anything like that. Never seen a comeback like that in golf, in a team atmosphere. It was something that I will never, ever forget.”

On having Michael Jordan in the team room: “Well, the first time I had ever been around him, he had fed me some beverages and the next day was a little bit more difficult than I would like it to be. But I still shot some really good numbers that day, and made an eagle on the last hole to win. … But you know, Michael being who he has been in the sport and what he's done, for him to be a part of – and want to be part of – this is special for us. This is one of the greatest athletes to ever live, and you know, he wants to be a part of golf and be a part of and share with us what he's been through. For us, that's incredible. … It's priceless for a lot of these guys. I guess for me, because I consider him like my big brother, gotten to know him so well over the years, I may take that for granted. But some of the other guys who don't really know Michael, I think it's a real treat for them.”

Woods: I need to get my points

Tiger Woods has won three times on the PGA TOUR in 2012.

MEDINAH, Ill. — Tiger Woods has played in six Ryder Cups and so far he has only celebrated one U.S. victory.

The improbable rally at Brookline, where the Americans outscored Europe 8 1/2 to 3 1/2 on Sunday, is something Woods says he will "never, ever" forget.

"I’ve never been a part of anything like that," said Woods, who contributed three points to the U.S. cause that week, including a win over Andrew Coltart on that seminal Sunday. "Never seen a comeback like that in golf, in a team atmosphere."

At the same time, Woods is well aware he has a losing Ryder Cup record at 13-14-2 overall — and in Four-ball and Foursome competition, the former world No. 1′s mark drops to 9-13-1.
There are many theories why Woods hasn’t dominated at the Ryder Cup — except in Singles, where he is 4-1-1 — like he has in winning 14 majors. 

For instance, Woods, like Phil Mickelson and Jim Furyk, who also clock in with losing marks in the biennial competition, simply has played more matches than others. He’s had 12 different partners during that time, as well, and with five U.S. losses, maybe the team simply wasn’t at its peak.  
Woods was quick to share accountability for the American defeats on Tuesday.

"Certainly I am responsible for that, because I didn’t earn the points that I was put out there for," Woods said. "I believe I was out there, what, in five sessions each time, and I didn’t go 5‑0 on our side. So I certainly am a part of that, and that’s part of being a team. I needed to go get my points for my team, and I didn’t do that.

"Hopefully I can do that this week, and hopefully the other guys can do the same and we can get this thing rolling."

Furyk, who has partnered Woods to two wins and two losses, understands why Woods is held to such a high standard.

"I think with as dominant as he was through most of those years, I think anyone would be a little surprised to see a .500 (record)," Furyk said. "But also … no one has an extremely good record on our team, would be my guess, and that would be because we haven’t won a lot of these matches.

“If we all had a 75 percent winning percentage, we would be 5‑2 rather than 2‑5 (over the last seven matches).“

Furyk said he’d be more interested in knowing what Woods’ record in Singles is. Told it was 4-1-1, Furyk smiled. “So, yeah, that’s probably the rest of our fault then; how’s that? There’s my theory,” he said.

U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love pointed out that a lot of great players don’t have winning Ryder Cup records. He’s a 20-time winner on the PGA TOUR, including the 1997 PGA Championship, and his own is 9-12-5. He’s 2-1 with Woods as a partner "so I’m part of his problem," Love joked.

Sometimes the problem is as simple as running into the red-hot player at the wrong time. So Love doesn’t plan to overanalyze his choices this week.

"I think it’s tough to win, first of all," the U.S. captain said. "Tiger can play great and his partner not play well, or the other team play extremely well.  I think there’s probably a lot of times in a lot of match‑play tournaments where it’s just a matter of who you’re up against. …

"I kind of throw the Jim Furyk or the Phil Mickelson or Tiger Woods record of wins and losses out. You just ask them, what do you like better, alternate‑shot or best‑ball, or who do you want to play with?  There’s a reason why these guys keep making teams, and I don’t look a whole lot at the record."

Damn....TW just can't get into any rhythm, better warm the bench this afternoon.

TW had 7 birdies, that was freaking awesome; but faced a rookie in Ryder Cup who was on fire, who just made absolutely everything, who made 8 birdies and an eagle. Nothing much left to say.

In fact, it kept me wondering how TW-SS survived up to 17 holes in their first match. TW split more roughs than fairways.

I figure TW just couldn't get used to team atmosphere.

It was much more exciting following Keegan who got Phil as the best cheerleader. . This pair thrashed Luke/Sergio and Rory/G-Mac; delivered 2 points. Job well done!

WORLD CHALLENGE ANNOUNCEMENT

Q. As far as this tournament is concerned at Sherwood, do you fully
realize‑‑ I know you have an idea, but do you fully realize how much you
mean to young people and how much they look up to you and fully
appreciate what you do for them?


TIGER WOODS: I think I might be a little bit too close to the
situation, but I think that what‑‑ the amount of Earl Woods Scholars
that we've found to go to college and where they've gone and the
environment that we've provided for them in the learning centers and the
curriculum, you know, that to me is exciting because these kids are
kids that generally would never have been able to have these type of
opportunities to be able to compete against in a level playing field.
These kids are now with this environment able to showcase and believe in
themselves and move on to bigger and greater things, and then on top of
that they come back and donate their time and their new found leadership
skills to the next generation. That's ultimately what needs to happen,
not just here at the learning center but that's what needs to happen
around the world. This learning center is a microcosm of what we want
to have happen around the world




Q. You are keeping your word like you and what your father Earl
started doing a long time ago in keeping your word and helping these
young people not only on but more importantly off the golf course?


TIGER WOODS: Yeah, you know, it's nice to win golf tournaments. I
mean, that's just my own personal satisfaction. But helping these kids
go off and accomplish things that they never even dreamt of and to be
able to now lead and give back and teach what they've learned, how they
did it, and to see the confidence that they exude in themselves and the
confidence they can instill in others, that to me far outweighs any
tournaments that I've won, and as you and I have talked about, that's
ultimately the greatest satisfaction in the world is to be able to help
others.
