now i come to think of it seriously. A container of a thousand cartons of Rock Melons with probably 8 melons in carton will probably have ocean freight costs of at most over a thousand dollars. That works out to shipping costs of over $1, lets be generous and say $2 per carton and then divide it by eight melons; that works out to 25 cents per melon!

Did you know that air freight rates is by the kilo? One melon is 1 kilo with air freight costs of a few ten dollars from Hokkaido to Singapore...

You can just compare; a few ten dollars versus less than a dollar. This is just plain scary.

likewise with the increasing variety and prices of durians.... $10 for 3 packs ordinary durians or $30 per kg for cat mountain king? guess market is big enuf to cater for all and all sellers hv to decide if they go mass or niche or inbetween
