I may have the same situation and was thinking of changing the stock shaft of my Callaway Forged 52*(Copper finish), which I like the soft feel much. Need Advise....

I am gaming a R flex Graphite Iron(Jap brand) set (5i to PW), am very comfortable with it. The spec indicate swing weight of C8(5i to 9i) & D0(PW), whereas the Callaway Forged @ D3. Stock shaft is True Temper Dynamic Gold Flex S300 @ 125gm.

Practicing at range with the Callaway forged alone for multi shots, I am quite ok......but on green when switching to my Callaway Forged for approach, I felt a Big delta in Weight which I may be struggling.....

What are the option for me to get fitted for a Lighter shaft..... if this is any Good or rather bad idea ? I was thinking of the SteelFiber i95/I80 or the PXI. Any1 had done this B4 and Ur advise ?

does the iron set have effect on the wedge? can play light r-flex graphite in P then suddenly ur 52 is a S400 steel shaft? Reason is i see so many ppl having this combo...and they also use the 52 for approach shots. the S400 is a very common stock wedge shaft.

Eric just helped me to change my wedge shaft.
He recommended the Hi-Rev.
The feel and result is good.

there are golfers who need spin and others who need to reduce spin on their wedges. so there are shafts that are designed to impart more spin like the hi-rev and some which is mean to reduce spin like the traditional PX. stiffness is also an influence for changing spin conditions.

depending on how they play their wedges, more and more golfers are going to lighter overall weight for wedges as it allows them to control their distances and shot making better.

finding the right weight usually progress from the iron set and it may take some time to settle for a different weight from the stock DG shafts which are in the high 120g. so imagine someone with a 85 g shaft and have to move to a stock wedge. it means the PW and 52 degree will have at least 40g weight progression.

fundamentally its not an ideal situation.

hope it helps.....eric

Slightly off-topic but still on the same subject - How does one get fitted for wedges anyway? I don't think it be a case of turning on trackman and looking at numbers, right?

If that's the case then does that mean wedge fitting is more about feel rather than numbers?

a trained fitter should be able to spot the difference in movement of the golfer. also the real tests are in the 80, 90 and 100% shots. with a heavier shaft (hence heavier overall weight), control shot making becomes more difficult. you will find that wedges coming out of the domestic Japan market are usually in the lighter weighted shafts such as NS Pro.

hence when we created the BFG wedges, it was a great opportunity to do away with stock DG which are the cheapest in the market but may not fit most of our golfers in Asia.

hey eric bro
ur BFC wedges is great, i try it when i had someone coming to me to change abit on the loft and swing weight. love the feel.

Now, finding the right shaft?? very subjective.
Keep on trying which ever shaft in the market, n hope u find the right one.
Just remember the differents of shaft weight of ur irons to ur wedges n swing weight too.
check the gap of ur loft angle too.

for those who are trying to find the right wedges shaft? do go to BFC and any Certified fitter for ur advise.

Cheers mates

what's the characteristic in the shafts that make one higher spin vs one that is lower spin? Is it the kickpoint / flex / combination of both?

I use S300s stock on my callaways, and recently put on some extra 2.5g lead tape on my 60* and 7.5g on my 56* on the heads to get more feel.
