Question on Driver Shaft...

I know putter shaft can be lengthen...

May I know if driver graphite shaft can lengthen? Cos bought a pre-own shaft and find its too short for my setup...

I am sure it can be lengthen. A golf fitter will help you to figure out how many inches need to be added if your shaft is too short for your height. Do pay a visit down to BFG to solve your queries.

One important thing, make sure that the shaft tip (preowned) is not cut before as it will change the stiffness of the shaft. Maximum is 1.5" extension for graphite.

That's 2003, mate, 43' steel shaft for Tiger's driver. But I get your point. a slightly shorter driver does not necessarily equate to shorter distance, but it'll probably gives you better control.

i am now gaming a 45' driver and I outdrive my previous 46' driver, and straighter too. Somehow new driver models seemed to be sold off the rack at 46' or more these days.

for the record, Tiger is now using a 45.5' driver

Yes it can be lengthen. You can add an inch or two.

for example.

If the length is 44 or 45 and you want to follow the set up of lets say

a Honma Beres driver, which is 46inch, or
a SuperFast 2.0 which is 46.5 inch.

But before you add length. Just do the following...

Spine check your driver....
See if your driver waves in One straight line ( like a left & right movement ) or not. If it rotates in circular motion. Have it removed and SPINE Correct it.

There are many Drivers sold on the store that are not SPINE ALIGNED.

Then add the extra shaft to arrived your desired driver length.

Oh btw, adding additional inch would make your driver lighter.

lets say from D2 to maybe D1 or D 0.

If you lengthen your shaft, you INCREASE the swing weight... unless if your shaft extension is those super heavy ones which are not commonly used.

Typically, when we lengthen shafts, we do add counter weights at the butt or use a slightly heavier grip to maintain the swing weight.

As a club’s length is increased, it’s corresponding swingweight increases as well. This is easy to understand when looking at a swingweight scale. As a club is made longer, the head of it is farther from the scale’s fulcrum point and thus the swingweight will be higher. For every 1/2” of length increase, the swingweight will increase 3 points. As a club is made under standard by 1/2”, the swingweight will be decreased 3 points. This is an important consideration for a clubmaker when assembling overlength or under- length clubs. Clubs made overlength will be heavier, both in swingweight and total weight, provided the same components are used to assemble both length of club. As clubs are made extremely overlength, the clubmaker must search for ways to make the club swingweight in the “normal” range. The choices here include using a lighter weight head, a lighter weight shaft (this will potentially reduce the overall weight of the club), or possibly a heavier grip (but keep in mind this heavier grip will increase the overall weight of the club.) If clubs are to be made shorter and swingweight maintained, the clubmaker’s choices include adding weight in the shaft or in the weight port, choosing a heavier head, using a heavier shaft, or possibly using a lighter grip.

increase length = increase in overall club weight
increase length = decrease in swing weight

this is also the reason why the shorter the iron the swing weight shoots up for example if your 7I has a D3 ur wedge is @ D6 or more .
