Taufik Batisah apologises for Singapore national anthem error !!!

SINGAPORE: Local celebrity, Taufik Batisah who was given the opportunity to sing the national anthem during the Formula One Grand Prix tonight, made a mistake while doing so.

His televised performance was viewed by millions all over the world.

But instead of singing "marilah kita bersatu", which means "let us unite", he sang “marilah kita berseru" which means "let us proclaim".

Speaking to MediaCorp, Taufik said, he's very sorry for making the error.

He said he was very nervous while singing.

But the winner of the first season of Singapore Idol added that he's aware that there's no excuse for him to make such an error.

Taufik says he hopes that the public will forgive him for what he refers to as an "honest mistake." - 938LIVE/vm

but seriously, would you have noticed the error if nobody told you?

it is a mistake of 'satu' and 'seru'. would anyone have died?

All the while I tot it was just a slang thing....Damm must be becos too much of Boomz music....

Anyway people around the world probably wouldn't have spotted the mistake too.

I think it has to do with expectation management.....Mark..he quite steady actually, upfront say he try to speak good ang moh....but not good malay.

But for 'Boyz to Man' Taufix, I think the masses expectation was diff lor.....

i am just disgusted by the reactions of most singaporeans on this matter.

sure, shame on mr. Batisah for singing it wrong, considering that it is his native tongue.

but for ppl who claim to be patriotic, excuse me, sir but did u managed to catch the error by yourself? or did you need the newspaper to tell u? if u did not managed to catch the error by yourself and needed the newspaper to inform you. shame on you too.

anyway... the power of media is not to be underestimated.

say if there is a bank robbery by a group of people. $1 million is taken. what do the police do?

they get the newspaper to print that $1.5 million is taken and when the robbers see the numbers do not match. the trust issues comes in, amplified that they are all already bad nuts committed a crime. they start killing each other and the police just needed to find the 4 bodies and now it is easier to find 1 person who is now going down for robbery and 4 counts of murder.

u have a point, but for a non malay to spot 'berseru' and bersatu is hard la..

MC, you must be the policeman and i'm proud to have known you. Most of the ppl i mixes with are the robbers, ppl like MT, LS and Shotah. We also knew the 1/2 million were spent by MT in geylang.
