Average Handicap in last few decades - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Average Handicap in last few decades   Average Handicap in last few decades - Page 2 I_icon_minitimeMon Jan 16, 2012 3:39 pm

In my 16 years of golfing, my handicap started with 24 in 1995 (who didn't) and drop to an all time low of 13.4 (my personal record) in 2001. I was playing between 85 to 89 consistently then. However, I have not been able to play to what I previously did in 2001 and that resulted in having more iron changes. Though my handicap today is 15.8, I find it quite difficult to play below 90 nowadays. How the handicap calculations was done is still puzzling to me.

As for equipment, new technology did not help me in my game much. My old Titleist driver 975D really was hitting damn long. During that period in 2001, if NSRCC members can remember Airforce Hole 2, I could get the 2nd shot with a 3w on the green back then. Tee shots from "Tiger Line" would reach about 25m - 30m before the bridge. But then again, I was only 46. How 10 years make a difference.

I think equipment technology did not help in lowering the scores. But it does help in accuracy and friendliness to a certain extent.

With regard to equipment used over the years, the irons that that I used are:

1st complete set (1995) - Precision (Cheap non-branded clubs)
2nd complete set (1996) - Rainbow (Didn't like the feel of a too heavy club head)
3rd Iron set (1998) - Callaway X-12 (now with my brother in HK)
4th Iron set (1999) - Daiwa (sold a few months later as it's not an easy set to
use)
5th Iron set (2000) - Dynacraft Direct-line Custom-fit by Joe. (Still using today and my
current lowest score of 81 from Blue at NSRCC Army/Airforce still stay)
6th Iron set (2002) - Mizuno Mp (Can't remember the model) Blade set (Tried but can't
handle)
7th Iron set (2009) - Mizuno Grand Monarch (In my storeroom after trying it out for not
more than 6 occasions and still can't handle it)
8th Iron set - (2010) - Nickent (In my storeroom after using 2 months as I can't handle it)

Presently - Reverted to using my Dynacraft Direct-line mentioned above. And it still suits me fine. Just that I have totally lost my feel for iron game.

Conclusion: In my personal opinion, technology did not help much. After trying the above 8 brands of irons, I didn't achieve much in lowering my scores. In fact it got worse with each change. I can therefore safely conclude that in order to help lower scores, it would be good to custom-fit your iron set in particular.

P/S: I am sure some bros here have been experiencing with more iron sets than me. Maybe they can share their achievements with all here.

Cheers! and Happy Dragon Year to all and Family. Beer Cheers Jump Swing
