PostSubject: How do I fix a chronic casting issue?   How do I fix a chronic casting issue? I_icon_minitimeWed Jan 04, 2012 10:16 am

Been golfing for 5-6 years but I haven't been able to cure my casting issues.

I read all I need to read. I looked at videos and I film my swing. I understand the theory of the golf swing but I just can't execute it.

I will have a good angle at the top of the backswing but lose it immediately coming down. At waist height, the shaft is not parallel but pointing down. Then I flip the wrist and that leads to a pull hook.

My misses are usually very fat, or a pull hook.

How how how??? I'm getting really frustrated.

see a pro, and do accompanying exercises to strengthen the muscles in the forearm and core.

yup...one would not be able to hit the tourstriker by casting. this tool for your case (since you know the theory but cant apply it), could be as good as pro lesson.

another band aid relieve is what DGman call harmonics, adding weight near to your grip.

this is what happens when you only 'train' the right hand.

Just google about this term in golf. Seems like smtg to do with releasing the wrist too early? Actually I played with some golfers whom I tot the wrists were not "cocked" as much as I tot they should be, yet they hit pretty nice shots.

Anyway, not sure if it helps to go back to the fundamentals and check the swing. One thing I often do is to go back to my basic swing - I stand with both legs close, and just swing slow. Feel the club rotating thru from side to side. Kind of like a nice pitching shot. We are not looking for distance here, just trying to get a feel of what the basic swing should be, without the legs and hips coming in to complicate the issue.

I find the golf swing too technical. So I opted to educate myself by feeling what the club should feel like throughout a swing, and let the body deals with it as naturally as I can manage without getting myself hurt.

Hope it helps.

i was a caster too.. went to Chris from HGS in JCC to cure it... Distance also naturally improved.. if you have the moolah I think its best to see a coach.. I tried all sorts of ways to cure it (mainly advice from fellow golfers all in goodwill) which resulted in even more swing problems... after a few months i relented and visited a pro for help..
