How do you putt?

Hi all,

I have tried searching the web for an understanding on the ball should be struck upon impact for putting.
Sometimes I tend to duff my putts (contact the ground first), just like that, a stroke is wasted, so its horrible man.
Do you guys duff putts like me too?
To prevent that, should I be aiming to strike the middle of the ball? wouldn't affect my golf swing (impact position) for irons, drivers..

There must be something happening in your stroke, setup, or something else to make that happen.

Putting is the easiest, yet most complicated stroke in golf. It literally can take 2 inches back and x inches forward...such a small stroke for things to go wrong.

From my experience as a teacher the one overwhelming thing I saw was people lifting their head and losing focus on the ball to see where it went. This is detrimental to putting as, in my opinion, you must focus on the ball and make sure to make solid contact. Poor contact in putting is much more penal that in the long game (relatively speaking).

Push your putter grip a bit to your left, rotate to make a pendulum-like swing and that works for me.

when you putt where do your eye focus on? the ball ?

I try to focus on a dimple on the ball or the line that I draw to help in lining up. Really depends on how I am feeling that day or if I am off the green and cannot line up the ball.

Personal preference really. Try a bunch of different things when on the practice green from say 5 feet. Look at a dimple and roll 10 balls, look at the line and roll ten balls, look at a spot in front of the ball and roll ten balls, etc. You will see pretty quickly which one works for you.

I tried alot n finally found the one with the help of DGman. No practise stroke, walk up n putt to my aim. Works very well.

Another thing I keep telling myself. Miss and I m down $10.

My ball set up is usually left of centre but i am right hand right master eye. Sometime i feel that focusing on the ball might cause my shoulders to turn to a closed position.
