| cameras are only allowed for media because those guys use zoom lens and stand miles away from the players. Normal ppl like us use cheapskate cameras and stand damn close to the players. When they are in full concentration and about to strike the ball, a clicking sound may startle them and cause them to hit wayward shots. Many pros have injured themselves trying to stop downswings etc due to cameras giving them frights... | |

| Pretty much nonsense if you ask me! Sorry Sunny, I say that because it's rubbish to a certain extent. The pros who tried to stop their swing were silly, only Tiger Woods is strong enough to do it without injury, who ask them try to copy him? Lol...
And Tiger Woods himself said his father used to train him to concentrate by causing all kinds of distractions. Coughing, jingling coins, knocking his golf bag over, walking around while his is preparing to putt or swing. Mental toughness his dad called it. But look at him now, get his caddy to destroy people's camera, acting like a gangster.
To also support my argument, I think it was last year at the Open when there was piling going on right next a tee box, the hole where the tee box is right next to the monorail track. Dong Dong Dong!!! I thought it was really funny cos that's way louder than a camera clicking away. And yet, the pros teed off without batting an eyelid.
Not that i don't agree that there shouldn't be cameras, but I think the pros as well as spectators have carried all this nonsense a bit too far. Both have been guilty of being selfish. Each needs the other, as well as respect each other. It's a symbiotic relationship. No pros, no event, no spectators, also no event.
Finally, the mind is a funny thing, if you're expecting to hear a camera click, you will hear it and it will sound like a cannon going off in your ears simply cos you have pre-conditioned urself to expect it. It's like being alerted to the water on the left, after which all you see is water not matter how wide the fairway for your drive.
Haven't we all played in Raffles with the guns going off in the background?
Just my thoughts.... | |

| tiger wood himself got very upset when ppl used camera and he had gone and tell ppl off angrily. John Daly was out for a long time due to injury when he stopped his downswing(some ppl even claimed that it was the beginning of an end due to that incident).
I do agree that they both need each other. But when you have reputation and big money at stake, i am sure you would have reacted very differently as well.
I guess it all had been the culture of the game. I never get startled at the range when ppl's phone ring or someone shout etc... There is always constant noise.
Maybe the marshals asking everyone to be quiet is the cause. When things are too quiet, camera clicking away or pin dropping may sound like gunshots. Whatever it is, it is here to stay.
And Birdman, do not need to apologise to me. I am only stating the reasons why they ban cameras. I am not saying that i agree or disagree....

| Here to stay it is, makes sense though, remove the root cause, and it can't possible happen. I'm going to be there with a camera myself, so I have to be extremely careful cos sure everyone stare at me one, got armband to wear, but that won't prevent a punch in the face from some caddy still, lol. And I do agree with you on the money at stake bit, 5-5-10 for me and earthworm digging underground also I can hear. Speaking of John Daly, last month's Golf Digest has an update story on him, titled John Daly vs John Daly. Poor guy... | |

| i agree with both of you. and i guess having so many eyes on you mounts a fair bit of pressure and being put under the microscope every little thing can throw you off. whereas when you're relaxed and your mind isn't racing ambient noise won't affect you as much.
however that being said having a flashbulb go off when you're taking a swing is distracting no matter how relaxed you are.
one thing i disagree totally is stopping photography at concerts. especially at the esplanade. but people usually snap away anyway. haha

| Techno,
If you reach there VERY early, you get to park by the roadside, otherwise you have to park at sentosa cove i think. Then take shuttle bus.

Will the caps be distributed by then to those going, If I manage to get a camera in, I might want to take shots of the group together and it would be nice to have a sense of identity in the photos. That is if everyone can be gathered together in the first place.

That is if everyone can be gathered together in the first place. good idea.. we did a dozen of GR caps for sample last time, but we gave out a few to helpers. let me check what are the colour left and the number of caps available. they are all in sunny's car, will update later. we can let go of those caps to those going to barclays first..

| Hi I'll be there on Friday and Saturday as I am on leave. As for the important Sunday, I forgot about it all when I was forced because of vacancies on the special Cathay Pacific/Citibank airticket offer and confirmed my family's 1-week golfing trip to HK/Shenzhen. I should be position near the green next to the camera tower on the short hole 3. You can see the player's tee off and the ball land in front of you and check out their short game.
Better be there early or it gets very inconvenient 'cos you have to park very far away along the road even though there are shuttle buses to pick you up and getting back to the mainland will be jammed. As for the blue Barclay's caps, you can ask for one at the ticket counter at the entrance. On the final day they distribute the caps(2 types open top visors and normal caps) freely near the big scoreboard behind the 18th hole. Last year I collected 6 and gave to my colleagues. Wonder if this year they are so generous as already the lanyard for the passes are thick strings against last year's special Barclay's printed ones.
One more week to go! | |

Agreed... his swing is not recommended anyway, unorthodox and very personalised... better don't watch him, else our own swing become koyak (err... how to translate this koyak thingy ah?).
