I havent played at Ria yet so I'm keen but dont want to go from Jan to March as it's moonson season. Confirm will vomit my guts out in ferry and very high chance of rain cancellations.

Ria Bintan and Bintan Lagoon are among the best courses near Singapore. But the ferry fuel surcharge and taxes, plus generally rooms/F&B/local transportation are all priced at Singapore level while we all know the costs are local level seems to put us off. It will cost us about the same if we fly away to Thailand and play.

Agree, especially if you have played at Bintan courses once. The high prices to fork out, in addition to green fee, is really not worth it ....

While we agree that our prices are priced very similarly to Singapore courses, Ria Bintan offers a unique and premium course which offers spectacular views of the South China Sea a la our award winning course the Ocean course designed by Gary Player, our recent accolade includes 1st Runner Up for best course in Indonesia.

However not all our costs are based on local (Bintan) pricing, we do have staffers @ Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal that assist the golfers upon their arrival for golf bag check in and any enquiries should they have any to name a few non localized operations. All this to provide better service to you as a golfer and to position ourselves as a premium golf club.

Over @ Ria Bintan, our rooms start from $90.75 for a weekday night which we believe is amongst the lowest of the Bintan Resorts, unfortunately the ferry ticket prices are something which is not within our control. With regards to food & beverage, while some ingredients can be sourced locally, many items are imported from Singapore to cater to the palate of our many Singaporean visitors.

It is not everyday in Singapore you can tee off against the backdrop of the South China Sea.

Dear Ria Bintan,

I agree with everything you said. And Ria Bintan is my favourite golf course. I still play in Ria Bintan, but not as often as I like to.

All I am saying is that, as a consumer, I look at what is available around me, compare the qualities of courses, services, other associated products, travel time etc, and respective prices, I have to give Ria Bintan a skip from time to time. Usually, it's my overseas friends who request playing at Ria Bintan, but when I present them with the costs vs playing in Singapore or Malaysia, I would say more than half will give up playing in Ria Bintan, except those who have not played there before and they don't mind paying more just for one time experience.

As you said, some of the costs are not within your control. I am not blaming you for the higher costs, I am only making an objective observation of what is available around me. It's very difficult for me to convince my kakis to go back as repeat customers of yours. Even your recent Stay in Ria Bintan and play free golf promotion, I cannot get my usual kakis to join me, because the ferry charges alone cost more than playing in JB with green fees, buggy, petrol/toll and lunch thrown in.

You can say that Ria Bintan is priced to target at different market segments. I will agree with that too. I'm sure you still have enough customers to maintain profitability at your price level.

I think it boils down to demand and supply. Probably Ria Bintan already has enough golfers to sustain their business ....
On the other hand, if Ria Bintan is keen to get more business from members of GR, which I assume this is the case since Ria Bintan is advertising here .... hence I think more feedback from GR members can provide better and realistic picture for Ria Bintan to chew. Such feedback can also work as market survery for Ria Bintan to consider in reducing their price in the future so as to achieve win-win.
I, for one, think Ria Bintan can get much much more business should they be able to price themselves more competitively (on things which they can control such as green fee, F&B, accommodation, etc) since there is keen competition from JB, Batam and so on.
Ria Bintan mentioned that ferry fee is beyond their control which is true ... but, I am curious, how many golfers can actually ignore ferry fee when planning a golf trip to Ria Bintan? Would you consider ferry fee as part of the golfing cost or otherwise?
