| This puts the Japaneses golf club pricing levels into a bit of perspective. It's an entirely different demand-supply market dynamics there. Check out the price. http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONMA-BERES-JAPAN-MG703-5-STARS-R-FLEX-5-6-7-8-9-10-/130531474718?pt=Golf_Clubs&hash=item1e64483d1e International shipping is free? Gee, thanks. | |

| Yeah Lee, the Honmas are crazy.
the Honma shop at wheelock place (i think it is run by pan west) is selling the new 5-star iron set for a breathtaking SGD85,000.
i also read in some marketing material that the 5-star Honmas are for Presidents and CEOs... so, in japan, if one is a junior executive, he cannot buy the 5-stars even if he wanted to cuz he cant be using the same clubs as the CEO.

| It is hilarious how the lofts pander to the egos of the target consumer segment of this product.
36.5 Degrees for a 9 iron ...
46.5 for an 11 Iron ... and they still have an approach wedge and sand wedge after that

Actually, as far as I know, golf and platinum plated. The shaft has 4 axis, so it's very stable through impact... which kinda makes sense if you think about it. Presidents and CEOs are unlike to have the time to go the range, so they need all the stability they can get.

And should be able to pay for a customised personal buggy with Bremen CD player and Sinfoni amp. And a 'hong pai' from the De Vegas as the caddy.

| I always thought the 10 was the pitching wedge, now I realise the 11 is the pitching wedge
A 28.5 degree 7 iron is probably close to a 5 on standard lofted clubs
I wonder if Japanese golf culture is such that if the "Boss" pulls out a 7 iron off the tee, no one else is allowed to use a shorter club than the boss, so must use 7 iron and above, otherwise you are hitting further than him ....

I am pretty sure while Donald Trump may customise clubs more expensive than this, he definitely would not appreciate these specifications as he is a very good golfer.

In that culture, if you hit further than your boss, are you fired?

| Such high end or should I say, high price Honma's are mainly used as corporate gifts. I have played a round of golf not too long ago in a third world country not far from us. It was attended by government officials, top businessmen of that country. Each and every one of the players using Honma gold plated driver/3W/5W. Just these 3 woods alone cost SGD20K. I am the poorest player at that tournament. My whole set only cost $1500.00. Honma is well known for it's high price and as such, becomes a status symbol in many societies. | |

That's a good point. I suppose that's Honma's market. I wonder if there are any other golf brands that serve that segment? From what I know (which is not much), the likes of Vega, Epon, Ikasu, Miura, etc, are not even close in terms of pricing.

Of course, gold and platinum plating, and jacked up lofts are not included...

The Maruman Majesty Prestigio range of gold plated woods and irons. Beyond a certain point, craftsmanship, precious materials, and beauty take over, and the club becomes an art object. Too beautiful to hit. Belongs in a display case.

The Maruman Majesty Prestigio range of gold plated woods and irons. I know miura, vega, epon are forged in japan. I feel they are good quality. Corporate Gifts

| 5 stars is the most stable..
3 stars Honma is actually good enough to play already.. You can see the difference from other brands when you try it yourself..

| i recently tried a set of irons that cost Euro $450 per piece. it comes with the proprietary metallic shaft and their unique way of fitting and building the set. apparently each head has a 0.1g tolerance.
so a set of 8 pcs can set one back S$6,200. its based on performance and not its artistic value.
the shaft is very special and one can feel the harmonics tuned to the nines on those shafts.
