| Hi guys,
Just got my first own golf set as I have been playing on my dad's old set for a while. Got everything from Golf Direct after surfing the forums here.
After getting most of what I need, I am now looking to get wedges and maybe a 3H. Most of my set is TM (TM R9s 4-PW and SW, TM Resuce 4H, Burner 1.0 3W and Burner 1.0 Driver). Is there any benefit to sticking to the same brand (besides looking good...) for an entire golf set? Something like feel and consistency?
Appreciate the feedback!

| i think for the purposes of looking good, it is more interesting to have several brands in the bag... but seriously, it may be easier to have each and every club entirely suited to oneself (in terms of feel, etc) if one is open to different brands. exception is maybe the irons (save for wedges) should be from the same iron set Above is my 2 cents worth, but i'm just a beginner so my words should be taken with a pinch of salt. | |

| When we can't be a tour player, the closest we can get is having similar brand equipment in the bag becos it looks n feels good. But in terms of playability, driver, woods, irons n wedges dun really have a in-between link. | |

| sometimes, the benefit of getting the same brand is the gaps between lofts are more evenly distributed.
eg, some brand's 4 iron is actually some other brand's 3 iron loft. So, if you unwittingly go and buy a 3 hybrid to fit your set after the 4 iron, you may end up having 2 clubs with the same / similar loft
another school of thought is, not all brands make everything well, so better to have say, TM driver and woods, Adams hybrids, mizuno irons, cleveland wedges, and scotty putter
there is no right or wrong... whatever rocks your world!

| Personally I think its very important (if one can) to using one brand....because who knows....the brand owner mite get you to be their poster boy.

| Most guys wanna look pro using everything from the same brand. but better golfers go with feel. If u do a research and check what's in a USPGA players bag, u will be quite surprised. Well.. firstly they aren't allowed to use any other brand apart fr their sponsor. but they sometimes have very very old models still in their bags. Let's not compare brands... let's just take TM for one. I don't think u'd have a problem finding drivers or fairway woods or rescue clubs that they're huge selection of clubs that will suit ur game. every yr new model.. if u don't like the current model. u can also get a used older model. wedges are a completely diff story altogether... short game requires alot of feel. so most good players are quite picky about what wedge they put in their bag. i personally find TM wedges a tad too light for my liking. so i stick to cleveland and love my mizuno SW. putters... also a very personal stick in e bag. i've used my scotty cameron for yrs and still trust it. however, TM has come up with some great putters lately | |

| I would not be so particular about the different brands, but having the same fitter throughout the set would be a priority for me. | |

| Hey justinkohzx,
I just wanna add something more
Most Golf Professionals do not carry "one brand" club only. If you view their Golf equipment. Most carry different brands that gives them confidence and ease.
I would suggest you to read equipment reviews first and explore ( window shop ) the brands that you fancy.
For example, like 3 Hybrids. There are some 3 hybrids that are shorter and some are longer. Because some are made as fairway 7 wood replacement and some are 3 iron replacement. For example. TaylorMade hybrids are usually shorter in length as compared to brands like Adams, Cleveland.
Look at TaylorMade Raylor hybrid and compare them with the other brands and you will see. One more thing you must realized is that there are some brands that has a heavier shaft weight and heavier swing weight.
A heavier shaft and weight may create a problem for you or shorter in distance.
For the wedges, well, TaylorMade are really not known for their wedges. I believe you would rather go for an equipment that has a Good reputation specially in "Playability and Spin rate" performance.
Good wedge brands are Callaway, Cleveland, Fourteen, Vokey and Scratch brands
which one is the best? it all depends on how you view it at the address.
You must take into consideration that some brands and model creates a "Feel Good/ Good Confidence" feeling as compared to other brands. Your the only one who could dissect it.
Lastly, always try to swing every club you fancy, feel their swing weight, and shaft length and take a look at the club head size displacement, some are made "bigger" which makes the club more Forgiving.
Happy Shopping | |

| Hi guys, Thanks for all the comments thus far! All this started cause I tried cleveland and Nike wedges and liked them both Hence thinking if I should break my TM set. I know I'm not sponsered but more for feel as in if in between a pitching wedge (48 deg) and a 9 iron, I don't want to have too much of a difference in feel as in weight. Granted shall try all the wedges again at the range or hopefully get some off the marketplace here so it is more cost efficient to try more options. Well some would say joy of golf is to try new equipment too | |

| Talking about brands.. i really have a bone to pick with Vokey's being widely regarded as being THE wedge. I've had 4 Vokeys so far, and i always hated how they felt. I never thought to try anything else since i assumed they were the best, so the other must be worse.. Couldn't be further from the truth. I bought a Mizuno MP T11 on a whim, and i was blown away by how amazing they felt and performed, even with conforming grooves. Needless to say, i sold the 2 vokeys i had as gamers, and now i've got the MP T11 in 50* and 56*.
Moral of the story.. don't believe in all the marketing hype. Go out and try different clubs before deciding which one you really like.

| Ok know a bit off topic here but where can try wedges? cause not many places let you actually hit before buying. And since i just started not too long (Lessons now with Jhan at Warren! Awesome coach!) I reckon I will be changing as I progress along as well
In addition does forged always feel better than cast?

| Best place to try out different equipment and wedges is during Golf Republic's weekly range session aka Starry Starry Night (SSN). lots of members turn up, and you will be spoilt for choice for equipment to try out, just be polite and ask nicely. | |

I felt I don't have that much confidence playing other people's clubs though. You have great taste. I am gaming NIKE too. Nike has everything from head to toe and Driver to putter.. last time go Lukewa and now go Vinc Golf.. Except driver and putter.. maybe should buy a VR Driver and method putter to keep just for show.. haha

But currently still in love with my SQ Machspeed Black square since it gives me what I want - Forgiveness, weight, distance, as a beginner. Since the SQ Machspeed series are going to be phased out, guess I'll stick to it for a long time.... I was thinking whether to change my Maruman putter as well since the Methodcore I'd tried gave me a very good feel. The Maruman was a gift from someone pretty important (not saying it feels bad, but I've been playing with it for the past 8 months and its quite a decent putter) so I was thinking if its pretty inconsiderate for me to just swap it out of my bag though.....

In addition does forged always feel better than cast? come to SSN. Justin was my coach too, he comes to SSN once in a while. between the 6-7 people who usually turn up at SSN, we could have up to 10 different wedges to try. to your cast/forged question; likely but not always. My favorite wedges are now cast. Choice of steel (hardness), and design also plays a role. Even shaft plays a role in dampening harshness from mishits. once I tried to create a one brand bag, actually two. I was buying Titleist and Ping stuff. I failed miserably because of my backside itch. woods/driver I like Titleist. For irons, I like ping more. Wedges, i like Bridgestone irons and wedges too.
