What causes toe hits on irons Empty
PostSubject: What causes toe hits on irons   What causes toe hits on irons I_icon_minitimeTue Sep 13, 2011 3:26 am

Just tried out a new set of irons at the local range and the Par 3 course and thats when I noticed the fresh ball marks made after each shot.

I realised that almost 75% of my shots were off the toe of the clubface. probably about the diameter of a twenty cent coin off the centre, consistently. No shots were near the heel as much as the are nearer the toe.

Some had half its mark off the grooved face! And those shots I felt IMMEDIATELY. Though they still fly (quite forgiving surprisingly for me)

- I was hitting off grass here, not on astroturf.
- Standard LLL
- 90% of my shots had decent trajectory
- I am not hitting them fat or thin
- I did notice a lost of 20% distance when struck at the toe.
- My balls were flying straight or with a gentle fade (my usual shape). No slices or hooks.
- I was hitting these blades for the first time.
- I dun really know how I connect with my usual set of semi cavity irons since they are dirty and marks arent obvious ( and I didnt bother to check them out)
- I have the same setup, stance, swing, ball, shoes.

Other than seeing my swing coach for professional advise, what could be the possible causes at first glance?

WHat could be the possible reasons for such an indication?

- Could it be that the face are a tad smaller than my usual irons? FG62 vs Nike VR semi cavs
- Thinner soles on these ones?
- Could it be the shaft? Usual KBS Tour90 vs NSPro 950 GH?
- The easiest explanation I can think of is that maybe I have always been a toe hitter?! Swing out-to-in

Interesting, the reverse is true for my driver - i.e I heel the shots more than I toe them.
