Question on Trimming Shafts Empty
PostSubject: Question on Trimming Shafts   Question on Trimming Shafts I_icon_minitimeFri Sep 09, 2011 11:29 pm

Helping a friend to ask about the subject. He has a set of regular iron graphite shafts that is 1 inch longer than standard Iron steel shaft. The graphite shafts are low kick type. He is thinking of trimming 1in at the tip of the shaft.

I told him my assessment that the shafts will feel higher stiffness and kick point will shift upwards possibly toward to mid kick. We argue about the subject and I like to post this to all the better and well knowledge golfers here if my assessment is correct.

While your assessment may be vaguely correct ... other (more significant) concerns are raised!

Was your friend not fitted to these shafts? If so, why is he now considering changing the length? The irons lie angles may need to be evaluated as well! Its not as simple as cutting down a driver shaft ... time to see a good club-fitter

How much stiffer a shaft gets after tipping the shaft 1" depends on the shafts properties ; different types of shafts react differently
