Strong and weak grips Empty
PostSubject: Strong and weak grips   Strong and weak grips I_icon_minitimeThu Jul 21, 2011 9:42 pm

Recently i've been experimenting with my grip in a pretty simple manner, by just rotating the club and taking the same grip, effectively strengthening and weakening my grip.

it is to my understanding that for the same club, hitting a draw would give more distance than hitting a fade due to the fact that the closed club has less loft at impact. and to my surprise, as i weaken my grip (i've been comfortable with and have been using a slightly strong grip) to a neutral or weak position, i get the same distance. does anyone know what is wrong here?

i'm guessing there might be two possibilities here:
1. higher ball flight with the fade gives me more distance?

2. could it be that by rotating the club, the lie angle changes slightly? therefore when i open my clubface slightly i get a more appropriate lie angle which results in better contact and impact. this is a pretty wild guess, but i can feel that the impact with a weaker grip is slightly sweeter than that of a strong grip.

any ideas?

See a clubfitter for lie angles and see a golf pro for your swing

Maybe you grip the club properly now. You had a strong grip before ? Now that you feel its weaker , might not be the case. Your feeling might be diferent now.

I have a professional club fitter that can look at your lie angles, but i believe its not the reason.

Come for a free video analysis so we can see whats wrong or just pm me if you have any questions.
