| Anyone here use golf bag tubes? I've been thinking of using them to help protect the shafts of my clubs. If you don't know what they are, they're those plastic tubes which are sold loosely (i.e. piece by piece) and can be slotted into your bag through which your clubs can sit. | For iron, myself i would used for the longer irons like 4, 5 and 6 as shorter irons like wedge and PW may knock into them. You look at your sets, see which iron kena knock, than that irons need the tube. lately thanks to DGman and his iron covers, it solves all my irons problems leow. Do go and look for DGman for some lovely color irons cover ! | |

My iron covers only cover the head. Are you saying that there are special iron covers which cover the shaft too?

| I think Golf House sells them as well. $3+ per piece.
Used to use them previously. In general they do a good job, but once in a while, they may get "stuck", i.e. when you pull your club out from the bag, you pull out 1/2 the tube as well.

| I should share my experience with tubes.
After having searched, found and used them, I decided to ditch them. Why?
1. While they're useful, I found that getting the club in and out of the tube was challenging. I found that it was tricky at times trying to angle the club to slide down the tube with ease.
2. It was tedious whenever I had to put several clubs back. This happens when it's buggy on track and we end up taking several clubs out at a go.
3. Although it did help to protect the clubs, I'm not sure how much protection there was really. I didn't see a significant improvement in terms of keeping my clubs unscathed (not that they're easily damaged now). I will admit that during that time, I didn't travel to outstation which required me to check in my golf bag so things may have been different. But I've done so several times without the tubes and my clubs are fine (fingers crossed).
4. They made the bag feel more bulky and added some weight (not much but still..).
5. My putter wouldn't fit into the tube. The putter grip was either too big or oddly shaped that it wasn't ideal for the tube.
Ultimately, I chose to grab a golf bag which had 14 slots. I think this is much easier to manage than to have 14 tubes. While this does not give as much protection as using separate tubes, I found this to be a decent compromise in terms of separating the clubs and providing some safeguard from having the clubs ding each other.
