BMW Italian Open - driver shorter than 3 wood?

Folks, I was watching European tour event and noticed hole 8, 500m par 5

Observed 2 flights of players all hit driver off the tee. They managed between 230m plus to bout 250plus meters. Mostly drop with little or no roll

So they are left with between 260ish to 240ish meters to the green
All players hit 3 wood to green for 2nd shot and are almost reach the green or green side bunker

Makes me realize that they probably can hit 3 wood longer than driver... Is the driver overrated? Impt thing is many of em got up and down for birdie!

they probably did a controlled driver shot if the first landing is tight and then go with 100% on 3 wood since it's pretty wide ?

umm ... I am pretty sure all touring pros hit their driver longer than their 3 wood ... they have consistent swings, fitted equipment, practice a lot ... etc etc

perhaps the hole u watched had a uphill drive followed by a downhill tee shot?
