Those been to korea may be fqmiliar with how popular the concept of screen golf here. Its like a driving range with a huge screen infront of u. U hit the ball and lasers track ur ball flight and swing speed to calc direction and distance. Someplace even have moving mats to reflect the lie.

I am in korea for abt 9 days now and have played at least once a day at these places. I personally have found them to be rather accurate in terms of distance i.e. My 7iron distance on course is same as distajce registered on these machines.

for first few days here, my score same as what i get in sg actual course (between 95 to 110). Then i took some lessons from friends and the last 2 days, i am hitting between 80 to 90.

What i wanna know is, from people who have tried, do u feel that these places more or less accurately reflect ur score on the course? If so then the lessons from my friends actually worked or if not then these places are not worth going to for practise. I dont wanna get excited from these new low scores for nothing.

Once u get used to the particular simulation system, u generally shoot 10-15 strokes lower at screen golf compared to real golf. Variety of reasons:

1) Hitting off astro turf or mat ... generally more forgiving
2) Exact distance to flag / hazard / green is known
3) Exact wind speed (if any) known
4) For Korean systems, unless playing on pure simulation mode (highly unlikely as default setting), reduces effect of sidespin (i.e. less hook and slice)
5) Exact break of green known when putting
6) Effect of rough / bunker is percentage reduction in power, no need to learn any speciality shots to get out of trouble
7) Perfect alignment (if you use the computer arrows to aim)

For the record, I love playing screen golf. However, getting better at screen golf is not going to improve your real golf dramatically. Enjoy the golf simulator as a separate game in itself. Sort of like Pool vs Snooker.

Thanks derek. Guess I wont be going down today then. No point improving screen golf score. Rather work on improving real golf. Nonetheless, its really fun but i'd rather go to the public baths.

I just wanted to know from people who have tried screen golf if the score is reflective of their real score. Guess its what i expected. 10 to 15 strokes below.

Ya.. agreed...
I also shoot at least 10 strokes lower than my actual scores in screen golf...
Another reason is also because there is a gimme of 2m in putting...

it is true that the sidespin is not so accurate and bunker shots are as good as a chip... other than that, I tot they are quite alright.

If you hit it fat or thin it will show so not too bad... abt the 10 - 15 strokes below, that really depends. if you do not usually get into alot of trouble on course, the difference will not be so much, eg, bunkers. on screen golf, every shot is on the fairway, if still cannot contact the ball well, it will be worse on real course
