Golf Republic Challenge League - Challenges & trash talk & etc.....

Hey folks,
Step right up, step right up!

A golf league is coming your way; for golfers of all levels to pit themselves against one another over a 'season'.
This league promises to create awareness (of each other's true golfing powers), improve oneself and get to know one another.

Okay, some tentative details first.

1. The league will be played over 6 months, kicking off in our charity game and ending in our year-end charity game.


2. Golfers would be categorized into 3 divisions; Premier, Div 1 and Div 2, depending on their handicap and the handicap assessment/scrutiny by the committee. Once we have all the golfers, the committee will give a initial ranking based on the handicap. Thereafter the challenge begins.


3. Any golfer can only challenge a golfer who is within 5 places above him and not more or less and strokes given will be in accordance to the division the golfers belong to. e.g. if golfer A challenges golfer B and both are in same division, play level. If golfer A challenges golfer B who is 1 division above, then 2-2 stroking will be given to golfer A. For the last 5 placing golfers, a special stroking handicap will be given (definitely more than 2-2).


4. A player can challenge only players who are 5 placings above him. If he beats him, he take over his spot while the loser drops to the challenger spot. If the challenger loses, his opponent remains while the challenger drops 2 places.


5. No restriction on courses, be it overseas or local. Up to the two golfers to plan and arrange.

Suggestion:
As per the above rules, higher ranked player has no incentive to accept a challenge from a lower ranked player ... And will spend all his efforts challenging higher ranked players, and the vicious cycle continues ...

Yeah true... asahi, win against lower then increase one step lah at least... or two... challenge is how to balance so it's equally motivating playing up or down.... otherwise no one play with me!

Can I join also but I dun have handicap just join for improve and learning from pro purpose

some suggestions:

is it possible to base it on something like a FedEx Cup points system?
points earned can be used to bet with challengers.. up to players or committee to determine their bets.

some may play more events some may play less events, may be an average score is used but a minimum number of events is required to qualify for the league.

Bro is this for match or strokeplay?

Just a suggestion, since it's a league I think everyone should play against each other at least once. If not it would just be the top vs the top n the btm vs the btm. It can be like A Epl format.

Hi all, thanks for the lovely suggestions thus far.
The committee will review them and see if they are feasible.

Tourswing, with this league, we would to level up the golfing standards of our high handicappers by having them challenge the higher ranked players. Hence the proposal of challenging golfers 5 spots above with maybe strokes given and slowly moving up.

Mizzy, Wah.......will be a tad complicated lah. Trying to keep it simple for this maiden run.

Aloyboy, we did think of this. But would be tough to mandate Coz we come from different walks of working lives so scheduling to play will be an issue.

Great Work ASAHI !!!, towards community thinking and for the good of Golf and golfers here !

I believe most of our GR'ians are maybe slightly taken aback by looking at the participants.
Intimidating for most. Like myself.

And this is something which we want to address within the close knitted GR community.

The objective is to encourage golfers of all levels to put those fears aside and join us.
It's not a question of worthiness but rather passion for the sport.
We all want to improve our game, don't we?
It's time to put those hours of practice at the range to some good use.
Challenge yourself.

At the end of the day, it's not the number standings next to your name that counts.
It's how we flame the passion for golf and brings us closer together.
The better players will guide you with some tips & tricks on the course, maybe some swing secrets or special putting techniques.

Golf Republic is turning 2 in June.
And it's all thanks to everyone in here, active posters..silent readers..Pros..beginners and seasoned beginners etc.
We have impressive numbers to show on the board, it's time we show impressive numbers on the course.

So i urge golfers of all levels to join us in this quest of promoting the sport and growing the golf community.
