took me 3 years. And during that 3 years I was your average range rat and prob go to the greens 5 times a year.

But then again, it depends on how often one plays and how much practise time you put in.

I didnt take the game seriously until about 2 years ago when I had too much time in the Middle East.

So how serious is serious? I remembered reading somewhere that a golfer who plays 50 games a year is serious!

I also think that when one honestly breaks 100, it would have opened up the game for him.

He would have appreciated a decent tee off, grooved a somewhat comfortable swing (relative), the long game and a satisfactory understanding of the short game including somewhat decent chipping and pitching and a fair enough concept of the finer points of the game - playing in different lies, playing out of the rough, course management, trying to read breaks.

It would also be a time when he would be experiencing a few pars and would have stopped blowing a couple of holes a round with double pars or triple bogeys.

Breaking 100 for me was a milestone in this respect. The game suddenly looked more fun and more approachable - I didnt have to drive the cart that much in a zig zag manner around the course!

It took Shamusan 1 year to get 6 birdies... You can work backwards from there Razz

I would put that as individual talent and hard work. Some people are born with a natural knack for certain sports and this peole progressed very fast against the average ones. Some people are born with 2 left hands left legs, so however hard they tried, they always are true beginners. Had seen one during my previous company and he loves to play games but every one he attempted, he look hilarious.... lol!

After about 15 rounds, 3000+ balls at the range, 15 hours of pro lessons, 20+ hrs on the greens, one year subscription to golfdigest.

Think ill need 6 yrs to accumulate 6 birdies. 3 down 3 to go hor Laughing

since I realized it, I have no more ego on golf course.....

It took me more than a year... and the break through came in OCC (Aranda & Vanda) when a friend of mine forced me to use brand new McGregor balls which cost $48 per dozen. Unwilling to lose the balls, I cheong lesser and played safer...
The rest is history Cool

well, i would suggest going to see my coach Tendy Tsai...

i was shooting in the 120 range and 110 on good days... i started lessons with him in Sept last year... i broke 100 abt 3 weeks after that, broke 90 ard dec and broke 80 in Feb...

so it all depends on how to wish to expedite your game...

to me, get a damn good coach like mine (i honestly would not recommend any other coach above mine) and get a damn good clubfitter like DGman... both would help your game along...

well a lot of pros and single handicappers are discovering that they are capable of shooting in the century.

all they need to do is play the New World Classic to get back that special feeling.

Takes forever to break 100, but it'd only take a few phone calls to get back up there...

I took me like 2.5 years to do so. But then I'm back in my old self nowadays playing in high 100 due to the less golf time and budget constraint Very Happy

To answer your question... It depends....

It depends on how much time you are spending practicing.
Get a good teacher... Then take your time getting there...

Alternatively. do what I did, quit your job, get put on 3 months garden leave, then bug your friends to play golf with you everyday for 3 months... Or sulk and walk on to any course you can and play 18 holes; all the while cursing vulgarities at every bad shot as if your life depended on it... (fyi: good way to get MBGC staff to give you a cart of your own)

You will be surprised what playing every other day for a month will do to your game. let alone 3 months.

So i think it would be safe to say: 3months, 3 games a week for the 12 weeks/3mths, 5 hours a game... 180 HOURS!!!!

It will take you slightly over a week, 180/24=7.5... not very long it seems

But here is the kicker: How long does it take to go from playing sub 80s to play 100+++? A heck of a lot faster I tell you!!!
