When the Chip is down Empty

I have been in this position a number of times. A good friend suggested that on your bad day when you can't chip properly, you should putt if your ball is around the green even if the putt is no good it still get the ball on the green. How true it is.

As the saying goes, "A poor putt is better than a lousy chip". Smile

Fully agree. I used putter in bunker on a number of occasions with success. Important to note is the bunker must not have a steep or upright lip before putting or it may get you into more trouble.

Using a putter in the bunker can be tricky. It also take practice. But sometimes the effect can be a lot better than a chip.

One thing for me is I seldom used a high loft wedge, 58-60, around the green side either apron of rough unless I got no other option.

But I must said I did chip a very unexpected shot yesterday in Kranji..... cheers

Maybe a hybrid or a fairway wood from
The fringe might produce reasonable results?

That's another idea, but must make sure the apron around the green the ground must be firm enough and also the pin far back with a upslope chip, or else........ HELP

I seldom putt from rough or fringe coz my putting sucks big time.

When the chip is down, I would then "chip & run" with an 8-iron.

Thanks bro. I do think it really works, sometimes. But you have to be confident with the putter. Smile

It boils down to pure feel for me. But of course when the grass is longer and too far away from the green you should forget this technique and concentrate on practicing the chip. The slope from bunker to green have to be gradual and distance should not be more than 10m, in my opinion. Smile
