That was awesome!!
Was his 2nd driver shot off the deck a bit of a mishit? I appreciate that the loft is low so he didn't get much height (and it was a downhill lie) but I thought it would get more elevation?

Seems like a calculated slice, but (pardon if it seems silly to ask - still super noob) why use a driver to slice the ball? Or for that matter why not just aim for the pin?

Yeah, seemed odd. I would've thought he would play a draw given that it was a dogleg left hole with water.

Bubba is a lefty, so that 2nd shot counted as a slice.

Hitting a ball on a downhill/slope will naturally impart a slice. Basic need to know knowledge and on a uphill lie, vice versa.

My question is same as navik. Why not just hit straight? The pin din look that far away... neither was there any huge tree or any obstacle...
hmm...

My above post speaks for itself. It is difficult to hit a straight shot off a downhill lie. If you aim straight for the pin, the ball will slice because of THIS downhill lie.

For a down hill lie, the shot will be low, therefore it is difficult to hit the ball high enough to carry to the green (300+ yards away). So he choose to use a driver, shape the ball to follow the contour of the fairway and let it run to the green. It is a much safer shot even if he can't reach the green on 2, he will still be left with a shot chip and a birdie chance. Why don't he use a fairway wood to hit the same shot instead you may ask? My understanding is that FW may impart to much spin on the ball that it may not be able to roll out as much as the driver. That is the different between us and the Pros, they always calculate the risk to their advantages.

And Also a slice or fade will have more spin . meaning it will stop more quick ....
