| Saw an ad on "Golf" Free monthly publication that Taylormade now offers customer fittings for their irons at Tanglin Mall Golf house, anyone try it out? Is the fitting process same as Ping and can the Lie angle be changed?
The ad features Burner 2.0, i would assume, Burner 2.0 now can do custom fitment? | |

| hahahaha................okok..............btw, BFG sells only the club heads? then we just need to buy the heads + his custom shaft? I mean it's a bit waste to buy a set of standard irons and pull the stock shaft out. | |

| Get a Forge set that u like... After that u can adjust the lie and loft. Shafts wise, u can always pop by bfg and get some advice from them. Then maybe u know what to look for. | |

| haha..how i wish...it will take a long time for OEM culture to really offer full customised solution. right now its mostly lip service. i was in Japan a few months ago and noticed that tourstage there is starting to offer heads only with all kinds of shaft options.
Hot Stix and Cool Clubs in the US offers heads only for brands such as Tiltleist, Callaway, Ping, Nike, Taylormade, Cleveland and more. Not that we have not tried but the Singapore market is too small or unimportant for the major brands to consider this option.
so customised solution is probably better than 2 years ago but whether it is truly customised depends on the integrity, knowledge, objectivity, experience and availability of fitter and their inventory.
Unlike a situation where you can built a set from scratch including shaft frequency matching, spine-ing, weight evaluation and OFL orientation, customised solution means you can asked for a more upright or flatter lie or a longer or shorter than standard length with a preferred grip type or size usually with an up-charge.
No...you can't ask for step down or step up shaft or a specific swing weight.
In my opinion such customisable solutions are closer to 30 to 40% of what Hot Stix can offer from the previous 10 to 20% objectivity level.
One of my most interesting fitting this week was a 5 handicapper who asked a load of questions on the phone and more when we met. i have a very easy time fitting him cos he has a very optimised swing.
His objective was simple enough. He has stopped golf for a year (because of tennis elbow) and wanted to renewed his game but he wants to know if there are technologies out there which will helped his game and also not aggravate his recovering elbow. He also prefer to change from his current TX-90 to graphite.
Had him tried 3 shafts - steel fiber i95, i-80 and against my advice the Fubuki iron shaft.
after several hits he told me that he could not tell the difference between the TX-90 and the Steelfiber but the Fubuki felt too light for him. i then told him to try different shots like a fade, a punch, a toe and a heel shot. Thats where he discovered the difference and i can tell that he was quite surprised with the performance of the hybrid graphite shafts. Next question was whether i would recommend the i80 or the i95. TX-90 is 90g, i80 is 85g and i95 is 95g.
With his swing speed of 75 mph, a smash factor of 1.44 for 7 iron and a nice smooth tempo, it takes further probing to come to a proper recommendation. he confirms that he prefers this tempo and even with a full recovery he do not want to swing any faster than now. it was a no brainer that he should have the i-80. if he was swinging above 80 mph, the i-95 would have been the ideal choice.
Just imagine that if we have to spend a good amount of time on shaft selection, what more when it comes to choice of heads, type of grips and size of grips, dynamic fitting for lie, etc.
However a full objective fitting will bring about consistency and confidence for the players so when you are going for a fitting session, be mindful that the real fitting is done before the swing session. The fitter will ask you questions and those are the important considerations to ensure a proper fit that will work for you.
