| I am deciding between Callaway - Solaire or Wilson - Hope (2009). The latter is half the price and looks pretty decent. I am totally new at this.. thought of buying a cheaper set to try out first. Hubby thinks I should buy Callaway instead. Both are brand new full set.
Any comments or recommendation? Thanks in advance...

| Hi duffader
When you meant good set? Does it mean the Callaway set or something else?

| 1/2 price of a Callaway Solaire is not still cheap..... either you get a really cheap 2nd hand set to try try (difficult to find for a ladies set though) or go for the good set like the Callaway. Dont waste $$ on a set (Wilson) that u will have to practically give away when u upgrade..
Good thing about the ladies set, there isnt much option to go equipment hopping....so a good set will last a while.

| j,
my personal viewpoint, be patient looking for your set of irons....
i bought my wife callaway x14 irons 5 years ago, she still using them now..... it was a used ladies gems callaway, for about US$250
look around in certain quarters, u may find something u will like, not necessary callaway, but good enough for u to sell easily if u want to change later on....
primarily an irons set is good enough for beginners like u, later on, when your skill level improves, then invest in other clubs.... i never believe in single brand for all golf clubs
enjoy your journey..... its the fun part

| I was using TM R7 and R5 only 5-7.. Decided to buy a proper set. The Callaway set is only $899 for 14pc set. The Wilson - Hope is going at $430 full set can't remember how many though.. I'll go take a look perhaps some 2nd hand ones else I'll go for the Callaway. Thanks everyone for your input. | |

| Jacque, why i say that its because after 1 years plus of changing this and that, i ended up with a set i wanted since day 1 when i know about golf stuff. So in the midst, i bought and luckily manage to sell the clubs away. So like what slinger say, take your time and look around. Xmas is coming so you might want to check out some online stores to see if there are good deals. | |

a proper driver, woods and putter?

| since your hubby is buying, I will suggest that you take a look at both and based on your feel and liking, get what suit you best.
At the early stage of golf...I don really know if one can tell the difference in feel ......just like me, I still donno the feel thing which many had shared. So get one that pleases your eye...and then move on with no regret
But be prepared, that with golf, there is no such thing as sticking to one set.....I am with my first set, and once I am more proficient, I will change too.

| dun need to rush to get a set, chances are you only use a few of them... My friend is still using the iron from a complete set... and tats 20 years old... you buy high you sell high.... all relative as long as you are able to sell in future.
Keep your mind open to all brands although some good brands have lower resale value... Just too bad some good brands are not able to get a bigger market share here

Good thing about the ladies set, there isnt much option to go equipment hopping....so a good set will last a while. The Wilson Hope is actually an awesome set of clubs. Just because not mainstream here does not mean they are inferior. Wilson have won more majors than any other brand.

| The Wilson set is the lower range unlike the Wilson Staff series... I read some reviews it says 'getting a starter set for teenagers or are you retired.....' Hmmm I'm like in between.. Ha ha ha! So I won't be cobsidering the Wilson set anymore. Listed price in USD is around $169 only. | |

| Jacque, are you with any coach yet? If not, find a good coach first. Once you have a good swing foundation, you can swing any club and more importantly, minimize injury. Once you are about 6 months to 1 year into this game, then start to look for the idea set. By then you will have better understanding which type of club suit you better. PS to Ferris : Lidat talk swee bo? Hehehe....... (huh? Coach more expensive? ) | |

| The ladies I coach are neither teenagers nor retired and they happily buy Hope and use well.

| Jacque,
I agree with Bro JC, spend more on a good coach and get the fundamentals right. This way you will appreciate this game and the eventual equipment more.
Personally I find the Jap spec stuff quite suitable for ladies, typically lighter and friendly to play with. Mizuno is having sales now I think, you can check them out. Have fun!

| Jacque, you can also take a look at Pan West which is having a sale. I recall seeing some ladies' sets there on offer but can't recall which. | |
