| I am currently using a putter with a 'goose' looking 'neck' shaft. But sometimes I do face doubts if I align it properly.
Anybody who changed fm one type of ' neck shaft' to another and improve your putting? I am real shitty in my putting......in addition to many others.
PS:Pls pardon my lack of ability in using the right golfing terms to describe the shaft........

| if you are set up properly and have confidence over your putt, you can putt with your umbrella and still make the putt.
a poor putter (or puttee) is one who do not know which line his or her putt will start or finish. the person usually have an inconsistent set up and posture and tries too hard to manipulate with the hands and push or pull the putt instead of stroking the putt.
its got nothing to do with the necks or the type of putter design. that is a matter of comfort and ease of alignment.
hopefully i have now confused you to the point that you may want to consider the new Zen umbrella as a choice...its very affordable.....haha

| Well, I changed to a gooseneck putter and I putt better...
I agree with DGman... confidence helps alot.
was using a heel toe weighted with mid slant hosel, if not wrong, somehow I think too much on the technical aspect of the stroke... With the new putter, it does not have much of an alignment aid but it makes/forces me to trust my stroke and aim. My putting somehow got better

| After long time, I decided to sign up for golf lessons... Putting is my biggest weakness... I expect lots of fix to be done on my putting stroke or even equipment...
To my surprise my coach told me that my stroke is good.... my posture is also good.... I should keep that part....
After he told me that, my confident is getting better... so is the putting...

| augustine..i was only teasing Duval about the umbrella..but Weesern and Taskie basically summed up what i was trying to bring across.
but seriously, when you keep putting short, its time to take a closer look at the putter length or the putter weight. If you are putting off line, having a try at other design may help you discover something that you have never thought about. a case in hand is a guy who have always used a mallet, one day he switched to a blade and discover he was able to not only aim better but stroke better too. and yes it was a demo Zen and i was playing with him when he shot a 79 despite having 4 bad holes.

PS...there is no Zen umbrella. you better get yours from Tianma.

Bro, good point! I think a lot of people neglect the putter grip portion of the putter and focus too much (or even solely) on the putter head itself. The putter grip is a key part of the putting IMHO. With a good grip which fits into your hands properly, it instills confidence and gives you better control of the putter.

| we have at least 300 putters in the shop...mostly of them stored up...they range from design in the 70s right up to current.
Duval, you can try out all of those and no need to buy putters, just help us clean up the storeroom after the mess that Alvin7379 and MC left behind.

| yes Xavier, you can try your luck..
btw the glass cabinet is coming down soon.....
putting setup and aiming has a lot to do with the visual adaptation and preference. sometimes people do not realised that they cannot focus on a certain head for a full 18 holes. so the best thing to do is find a putter that you can be comfortable with.
the other thing to look out for is offset or onset in a putter. depending on your ball position and putting stroke, certain offset (plumbers or midslant) or onset (centreshaft) works better for a particular golfer.
all said and done, we evolve and thats why some golfers will find better success when they switch putters from time to time.
