Subject: Need coments on Cobra S2 irons. Thu Mar 04, 2010 4:02 pm
Hi,
I'm new to golf (4mths) and I'm currently using an old hand-me-down set of clubs. I would like to get a new set. I was looking at the Cobra S2 irons set. Has anyone used them before? Should I got for the graphite shaft or NS Pro shaft? Any advice? Thanks.

Hi. Me using S2 for 3 mths now. Good irons set with higher trajectory as compared to my previous set though losing bout 10 metres now compared to before. It's smtg I dun mind as this set is more forgiving and the shots more accurate now. That's for me.

hi,
I am using the Mizuno MP 52 with NSPro shafts... IMHO, Cobras are better for better players. I used to own a Cobra driver, and realised that you really need to hit it sweet! For more forgiving sets, I think the Callaways or Taylor Mades are better choices. Right now, I am stuck to my Mizunos....Banzai!! Of course, this is my opinion...

I'm using the SZ now. But before I bought it late last year, I had tested both the S2 and the SZ and preferred the latter. In my case, I also found that I got better distance on the SZ although the stock shaft was a 1030, rather than the 950 on the S2. I'm also a newbie and havent been playing much, only 5 times since I bought the set, but am very pleased with it, so I suggest that you go test them out for yourself and go for the one that fits you best.

Hello Peppermintkid
I'm very new to golf too and its been almost four months of great fun with the S2/NS Pro900. I've got some kakis using other sets like the MB pro, R7, VR, AP1 etc etc... and I'm havin' fun with them too whenever we practice together.
it seems i need less effort for the graphite shafts. on the flipside, i need more concentration and swing speed with the regular and/or stiff NS Pros shafts.
hence, i believe on the term "whatever works best" for me.
hope this helps.
Cheers!

Batman, I think the S2 irons are not the most friendly beginner irons, as compared to the Mizuno MX series irons. It depends on whether you are prepared to work hard on your swing vs immediate results.... in the long run, if you are prepared to invest time and effort into developing a good swing, and maybe getting help from a coach, the S2s will make a great set of irons even when you are down to 10 HCP or below

S2 irons dun really need a 10hcp to play Ghoonk, so dun scare them. You are right that swing is the key and not the equipment. However, if they are ready to put time and efforts in, i think S2 is quite ok. Not difficult to hit as it has quite a wide sole.

What I meant was:
You can play these irons all the way till you're a 10 HCP, no issues. Perhaps as your HCP gets lower, you might want to try something with more shot shaping abilities (e.g. AP2, MP58, MP68, Nike CCI Forged, etc), but these irons are less friendly to beginners as compared to Mizuno MX irons, but definitely better where it comes to teaching newcomers to the game about ballstriking
In simpler English, S2 irons are good, as long as you're prepared to put in time and effort to develop a mechanically sound swing, and will love you long long, capisce?

I own the regular S2 irons, not the forged ones. Because I have only started, can't really tell the diff. I find that the ball bounces off the face. Lofts are also stronger than the first set of clubs I have used so the distance seems further. Offset seems to be more. On the topline of the face, there is a black strip that seems to give it a thin topline.

Any comments on the S2max vs the S2? Saw the S2Max hybrid+iron set online and looks interesting.
Anyone seen the S2max + hybrid set in Singapore? =)
