| As the late Adrian Rogers said, "you cannot multiply wealth by dividing it." [img] [/img] An economics professor at a US college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A. After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. Could not be any simpler than that. | |

| that's communism. socialism does not have a fixed definition. see wiki. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism
advocates of socialism ranges from left leaning commies to right leaning pro-capitalists. modern socialists in Europe tend to let the economy develop freely with regulations and look after social interests through government funding for welfare programs.
the above case is misleading.

| Interesting! Does this refer to golf? Is it better to use one club than all 14 clubs? After all, in one US one club championship, the winner shot a 70 with just a 6 iron! | |

After all, in one US one club championship, the winner shot a 70 with just a 6 iron! I got a feeling.....(ala Black Eye Pea)...hhaha I got a feeling...that the teacher is a golfer.....he must have earlier noted that just as in golf, one 's score is dependent on most clubs....say one is good at driver but suck at putting...so score still likelihood be below expectation. Thus if one only focus on grooming the clever ones and neglect those at the tailend by giving one score to all, it will masked out and not surfaced out the less clever ones and thus mayhem will arise.

| Interesting teaching....
Top performers must always be rewarded but if the masses lag behind too much then Govt normally will try to bridge the gap. No definite socialism or communism works in this real world.

| interesting. Socialism is as misleading as democracy. Neither is a monolithic theory that can be prescribed or should be applied to all countries. | |
