Hi all

I recently got a new golf index from the local club here in Saudi after submitting 5 scorecards in the past months.

With this index, how can I move on to getting a Golf Handicap? Or is this piece of paper I have now the "Handicap Card" to be used when I play in courses that requires a handicap?

Or do I need something more?

Pls advise the procedures. A bit confused here.

yes, handicap index is your official handicap, that is if all are in accordance with USGA guideline (e.g. computation and rating).

hope this explains:

In a nutshell, your index is your handicap.

In the "olden" days you had a handicap. Lets say 18. So regardless where you played you deducted 18 from your gross score to get your nett score...

Now with slope rating you get a "handicap index".

What that means is if your "index" is 18 at lets say Marina Bay, which is not a hard course, then when you play Legends which is rated a bit harder your handicap may be 20.

Or if you play an easier course lets say Palm Villa your handicap may be 16.

The golf courses have a sign... (Marina Bay is on the 1st and 10th tee boxes) with an index chart, you find your handicap index, find the tee box you are playing off and it will tell you your handicap for that course....

Whew make sense????? Very Happy

AHH Thank you both gentleman for the quick updates.

I know this question has been asked a number of times but I was rather confused with HC index and "HC card" (if there is ever one).

Saw people with HC cards hanging on their bags but what the local club here issued me, which is conforming to USGA standards, I pressumed, is just a piece of paper stated by HC of 26.8. So I guess with that piece of index now, I can register for tournaments and gain access into courses that needs a HC?

I do understand the part about using this index at varying golf tournaments with different ratings to derive at the overall net score.

Thanks again! Would be hitting the Riyadh Golf Course one more time before I take a break from the game for CNY!

SH: What is easy for you (pros) may not be 'easy' for high handicappers--witness my pathetic 105 off the blues at 'easy' Palm Villa's IOI & Palm course a few weeks ago. I doubt I hit more than five fairways off the tee that day because of a sudden appearence of a push-slice! And my putting was terrible also.

Sad

Anyways, good to see ya yesterday hard at work at Laguna teaching your students.

We should play again sometime in Singapore with a few kakis. Do you know Brian J Tracy who is a well-known sports foot & leg expert in Singapore?

Very Happy
